Vette(s): looking for a 68-72 convertible,4 speed
Thanks for the welcome. New here. Fellow worker suggested this site. I am in the process of looking for a 68-72 convertible project. Preferably a 4 speed. I am real close to buying a 70. Trying to justify $11500 price for a non running, but all original 2 top vert, 4 speed. I might just have to go for it. Any suggestions would be helpful and apprecited from anyone here.

Non-running why?
If it's in bad shape, base engined, or the engine is missing, then that might be a wee bit high. If it is an original big-block, or an LT1, even not running, it would be a decent deal.
We need more info, please!!! We want to help get you in a Shark ASAP!!!!
It is good to get as much info as you can, before plunking out your hard earned cash. Research is good!! Remember, you should buy the best condition car you can afford. Restoring/repairing Corvettes can be expensive, but they are sooooo much fun!! Let us know what it is you are looking at, and you'll get plenty of opinions/advice. Some of it might even be good!

Welcome ctrain22, enjoy the site!

As Joel said, it all depends on the condition of the vehicle.  Are you able to look at it in person?  If not, can you have the owner take digital pictures and email them to you?  You really need to know why it isn't running, and how long its been in that condition.  If it needs an engine and transmission rebuild, that can get expensive.  If the frame has damage or a lot of rust, that can be expensive too.  What about paint and body work?  The list can go on.....

Do you have any idea of the options available on the car?  For example, my car only has the base engine for 72, but has factory air and is a four speed.  There weren't many four speeds built in 72, so finding a convertible with air and a four speed probably isn't that common.  If it's a car with rare options or a special engine (numbers matching), then it might be worth getting even if it needs a lot of work.

If you aren't worried about matching numbers, then it might be worth it to you to get this vette, so you can create your dream car from scratch.

It all boils down to why you want a vette, what you want it to be in the future, and how much you're willing to invest up front.

Good luck with the search!

Welcome....As always, it's great to see new members in So Cal. There are a few of us down here in L.A....Definitely let us know the overall condition of the car you are looking at. Be careful....so many people think that just because a car is old and/or a certain model that it's worth a fortune...And a fortune is what you could end up spending. There is a lot of knowledge shared here, just ask and ye shall receive!

And we need more Wild Bunch members !!!!

Vette(s): looking for a 68-72 convertible,4 speed

Thank you all for the replies. Looks like this is going to be a great forum.

The one I am looking at is a 70 convertible, base 300hp engine, 4 speed. 2 tops, all original. I has been sitting for years and hasn't run. It has a/c, p windows,p steering, p brakes, tilt/tele. needs about everyting, but is all there. Frame is supposed to be good, but top corners of windshield frame are rusted. Never hit, but needs paint, Corvette Bronze.

Big problem is shipping. Who to use if I do buy it. Any suggestions on purchase or shippers would be helpful and appreciated

Windershield frame rust is not a good sign!
This car is apparently not local to you, I guess? I would see if I could find someone close to where the car is, and have them take a look at it for you. There may be more rust than the seller is letting on. It may be a good car, too, who knows? If you let us know the approximate location, I'm sure one of the forum members could help out with an inspection. Just an idea...

Car is in Missouri. About 30 miles south of St Louis. Iam planning on seeing if he will take $11000. Shipping seems to more than I thought it would be. If someone is close and could check it out, without trying to buy it themselves if it is worth it.

By the way, I would entertain any other  projects, especially for less money.
