Tell us somethings about you and your car.  How did you come to own it and what condition is it in?

Vette(s): 1982 crossfire coupe, white, fuel injected 1974 LS4 454cc, Convertible, 3 Speed Automatic w/AC, Medium Red, Silver Interior, White Top, Black Hardtop, matching numbers.
Thanks for asking tb. I was born in 1966 and had a neighbor in the early "70's with a convertible big block in a bright green with a black roof. The sound, the style, and the speed is what stuck in my thoughts until 2007. Spring of 2007 I was driving my 1982 crossfire vette in my new neighborhood when I saw a reddish brown(medium red officially) convertible sitting outside a windowless garage about a mile from home. I stopped in to take a look and met the owner. A women 15-20 years my elder saw my interest and popped the hood for me. It was a 1974 LS4 454 convertible automatic 3 speed, all matching, all original, and with the hardtop. Garaged its' whole life, it looked pretty nice. Winters in RI can be tough on cars. She did not want to sell and I left her my phone number. The call came about six weeks ago and we have finally agreed on price. It sat in that garage for the last six years. 89,000 original miles. Not missing a hub cap. She had every slip and receipt from the day she bought it. My 20 year old son and I siphoned out the gas and lubed as many cylinders as we could get the plugs out. The gap was even perfect. We topped of the fluids. I changed the fuel filter and hit the carb. with a shot of ether. First turn, boom, started right up. I gave it a few minutes and backed it down. Too good to be true! All gauges worked, even the headlights.
Now to the work it needs. There is a short somewhere between the ignition and starter. The ignition loads up when the key is turned but the starter only engages when it wants to. No solenoid clicks. It does need a new battery and the hot and ground cables are short in length as you know and hard to work with. I am pretty sure she needs brakes. Tires are ok but need replacement in 5000 or so miles. Rear bumper is off the car. It is a two piece. I have the letters and hardware for a replacement. Her son tried to push it into the garage one day and put his front end through the bumper.

The trip to the gas station was interesting. It stalled out starving for air or gas. It turned out to be gas. When I added fuel it must have stirred up some solids. The fuel filter was clogged but I had extras. I am going to have to drain it again and find a way to vacuum out the solids. I have not gotten on it yet but am very happy with the way it sounds and shifts. The linkage from shifter to the tranny needs adjustment as it slips out of park into reverse. The front end is super tight and the tire wear pattern is perfect.

I plan on taking the winter to slowly work out all the bugs with the help of my son. I am a weekend mechanic no doubt but have worked extensively on my 1982 which has long since been sold. The '82 was very reliable but was never the car I dreamed of.

I want to thank each member of this site for being such gracious hosts and answering my questions. This is a top rate site. I wish I could say that for the others.
