Vette(s): 1978 Siver Anniversary Editon, L48, almost all original
Thanks - Will be picking up my 1978 Silver Anniversary Vet next weekend.  The car has been in storage for a few years, driven only occasionally.  The current owner is getting an oil change and basic tune up for it before I drive it almost 1400 miles home.  The vet is all original, except for the stereo and front calipers.  Is there anything else those "in the know" could give me a heads up on before I drive it all the way back to FL?

ride it...errr... drive it like you stole it!

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

I would make sure all the basics operate normally.  Light, steering etc.  Give it a bit of a "shake down" cruise before taking off.  See if everything is working okay.  Talk to the mechanic that is doing the tune, and see if he has anything to say.  Do this kindly, you don't know how good of friends he is with the seller.

It's hard to predict how anything 27 years old will do when put to the test.  Start out easily, and enjoy the trip.
Start out easily, and enjoy the trip.
That's what I did. Just drove an 11K mile 79 from east coast to Chicago, 1000 miles. Made sure all fluid levels were up and air pressure in tires was OK. Took it for a little cruise at speed before deciding to drive it home to make sure tires and balance were OK so I wouldn't be vibrating all the way home. Had a round trip plane ticket and shipping arrangements but decided this was meant to be DRIVEN! Had a couple of C3VR members phone numbers in my pocket just in case, too.   Where you picking it up?   Good luck.   Mike

Thanks everyone!

After looking at MSN's Mappoint, I'll be going I-75 from Naples FL to Chattanooga TN, where I'll be switching to I-24.  From there it'll be 24 to I-57 into Chicago, where the vette is.  I'll be leaving late this Friday/early Saturday, and returning sometime Sunday.  The seller is in business with one of my coworker's relatives, so I'm not worried about the integrity of the seller.  I'd attach a pic of the vette, but don't know how!

Hey, I'm just south of Chicago not far from I57.  Near Peotone. If you'd like, bring it on over and we can put it on the lift and look it over good before your trip. By chance, is it a 30K mile SA out of Palos Park, IL? I hope not! I checked that one out a few months ago. PM or email me if you want to swing by.   Mike
