thanks for having me. my reasons for signing up have more to do with looking for some corvette assistance than anything else. my dad just recently passed away, and left me his 1980. the vin decoder showed its an l-48, but it has l-82 badges, and my dad was always saying it was a rare car due tothe fact it was originally exported to canada. Km on the speedo are the big numbers, and "unleaded fuel only" is also written in french, things like that. he also said that the l-82 with 4 speed wasn't available in the US in 1980. soooo.. for all of you, my question is first, how much of the story about the car do you think can be verified, and/or documented.
send question to all of you, (now that i have your interest;)); where can i get keys made? dad didnt leave me a set when he passed, and they are nowhere to be found. i have the title and the car, but no keys. i talked to a chevy dealer and they said they dont keep key codes back that far, so any help in where i could look would be appreciated. i would rather not, have the locks and ignition popped out, unless absolutely necessary.
thanks in advance! i appreciate it.

Good to have you aboard.
As far at the keys go, a good locksmith can 'read' the keys without taking out the locks. It's not the cheap, but perhaps cheaper than pulling the locks, unless you are doing it yourself.
As far as the other questions, I really don't know. But there are folks here with application books that may be able to answer. Not everyone looks at the new member post, so you may want to post in another catagory, and you may get a lot more response.
In any event, this is the place to get the information. So that's the reason for joining, good for you. You might make a few friends while you're at it.

Enjoy the site!

The L-82 was available with the 4 speed, but ONLY on a few of the earliest built '80 cars.. It was the standard(base) trans with all other engine options. Someone may have added the L-82 badges, it was common. The export cars were different on several levels, such as the dash/gauges being metric.
As far as keys....the only thing you can do is take the ign. switch, and one of the door locks out, and have keys made. It's cheaper than having a locksmith come to you, and make the keys. I would suggest changing the locks anyway, considering you don't know where the orig. keys are, or who has them. Better safe than sorry.
Congrats on your new "gift", but sorry for the way you got it.
