To be honest, I am kind of lost.
My mother in law (to be - June 30th!) gave me her 72' Stingray Convertible. Its a pretty clean car. Minimal body issues (only two spots are chipped) and a nice interior - but lets back up.
Im 25. Ive been working on cars since I was 16, of course all fuel injected. The last car I ran on a standalone EMS called Megasquirt that I built, installed, and tuned myself. In November the motor blew, and couldnt bring myself to fix it. I parted it out, and said I was done with working on cars beyond regular maintenance.
Then Sunday happened. She threw me the keys, signed the title, and said "Its yours as long as you get it ready to take to your honeymoon.".
I have *never* worked on a V8 before, let alone a carburetor!
I drove it back 80mi without a problem, but I dont know where to even start!
A couple pics:

Issues:
Doesnt start very well, idles high, runs rich. I have no idea what kind of carb this is (someone told me that it may be a stock Holley?) and the electric choke is loose and isnt even hooked up. I cant find a wire that even used to go to it besides a tan one with a black spade fitting that someone has taped up in the loom on the passenger side.
Only one headlight works, wipers do not work, and the HVAC doesnt work. Easy enough, bought the Rik's vac guide and a vac gauge.
Exhaust manifolds are cracked - pretty good too.
Leaked antifreeze from under the passenger side right where the front door edge is about - will investigate Friday.
Press the brakes and the car veers to the left. I will investigate Friday.
Leaks oil - alot of it. I will also investigate friday.
Top is new, but way out of adjustment - paying a upholstery shop to do that one.
Passenger door latches the first "latch" but doesnt actually shut all the way unless you slam it. Cant find anything binding - yet.
Some engine pics:

Wiring is also a mess. Someone put a Edelbrock Performer Mani on it at one point, and God knows what else.
I have no idea where to start, and I have about 4mos to get it running well. Headers or OEM exhaust manifolds? Brakes first then motor? Get motor running well and then do vac? Just replace whatever carb that is with a Edelbrock to match the mani? So many options.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Glad to be here :D
Thanks!
Tim

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
Nice Mother-in-Law
Great advice on posting on the individual forum for each of
your needs.
First thing you need to know
is most of the maintenance manuals that cover all of the c3 years are of
limited value so you want to purchase the GM Shop manual for your years I found
one on Amazon, link
Some on ebay http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_nkw=1972+Corvette+GM+Shop+and+Service+Manual+&_itemId=350358465017
You also should go to a corvette club and see if there is a
local place for good used corvette parts.
It may come in handy. I have on
in San Diego that has a lot of the hard or impossible parts. Local one is better but if you need to check
on something email Steve at vettsteve@aol.com
But it is always better if you have a local guy in the area.
Sounds like you have a heater core leaking. In my 82 that required the removal of the dash. Which was not a big thing for me because it was all cracked and needed to be replaced. Do not know if you will have to remove your for your year or not. Be careful as it is most likely brittle. If you do have to replace the dash ask for advice on where the best fitting ones can be purchased. I did not and while I got mine to work it could have been a better fit. Lots of experts on the forum and just need to get your requests out in bite sized requests.
By the way welcome to the forum.

Welcome, Tim! Looks like you have a good starting point! You'll find that this is the best site on the net for C3 info and talk! Enjoy! You will love it once you get it sorted out!

Welcome to the C3VR family, Tim (teklein).
If only I could have been so lucky to have a mother-in-law as great as yours... feel great, she did you a big favor.
I know for a fact there are several C3VR members right there in the Greenville/Greer area that you might try to get hold of. They should be able to point you towards the help you need. Check the member map in Members above for So.Carolina and send them a Private Message. Congratulations and good luck.

The difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys!!
Awesome! Thanks guys - I will definitely look some of them help - would love at least a recommendation on a shop that can handle the top.
I forgot to mention - I am also a mod at 2gnt.com - the 95-99 non-turbo Eclipse/Talon forum - so definitely no stranger to "social media" or "automotive communities" - and so far this one is pretty awesome!
I will check the heater core - thanks!
And yeah, my MIL rocks - we have always gotten along very well!
Interesting about the carb - I will find some numbers and on it and try to cross reference what it actually is :)
And off to the other forums I go (of course I will still check this thread :D)
Thanks!
Tim
Welcome to the club of vette ownership! You will find that owning a vette will open many friendships. You will also find that a vette from 1972 will keep you busy for a few months! It sounds as though you have a few issues to tackle! As mentioned in previous posts, post your questions in the correct forum. This way you will get your answers and others with similar questions can follow along. Once you have posted I will be glad to add my thoughts to get you started. ( I just reworked everything on my 72)
Again welcome, I think the 72 corvette is the best but then again I may be a little bias!
