Hey there--
I have been looking at pieces to build my car into an ultimate driving machine. In a recent discussion on another forum, the Guldstrand 5-bar setup came up. I was wondering what anyone could tell me about this setup. Is anyone running it? I ordered a Vette Brakes Performance Plus system for my car, and no I am just waiting to install it. Would I be able to use the VB rear spring with this setup? What about wider rear wheels and tires? I know the 5-bar replaces the trailing arms, but will it accommodate larger (and wider) rear wheels? TIA,

Hello Bryan. The Guldstrand 5 link is THE solutin for hard driving Road Courses. The adjustability is there and the weight savings are big as well. Yes you can use the VB&P composite spring with the 5link. If you look at the construction of the 5 link you'll notice that it won't allow much more room for bigger wheels, maybe and 1" or so. I have never ever seen one installed in a C3, one of my friends just ordered one, he'll have to waith at least 3 months to get it. They are hand made so it takes time. At by what he told me Guldstrand seems to have orders coming all the time, so I'm pretty surpriced that no one actually has it in C3. I know one guy who has it, but he don't have any pics of it, so...
I'm gonna buy it and install it next winter, I just ordered Carbon fibre half shafts, so my rear end is starting to look pretty good now.

Jay--
I have followed your car on some of the other boards, and it sounds like it's coming along! Carbon fiber half-shafts? Pretty trick, but will they hold up to, say, 500 HP? I want to get my suspension and drivetrain work in order before I add a monster motor. I have been looking at stuff from Tom's Differentials for the rear axle (even though mine is recently rebuilt). Guldstrand was the obvious choice for the ultimate suspension addition to the Performance Plus system, but it had me worried when the guy at Guldstrand didn't recommend a fiberglass rear spring. I don't think I will be running THAT hard anyway, so either way it's overkill. Keep us updated on your ride!

Hi, yes the CF 1/2 shafts are rated for over 800hp/800tq so 500hp shouldn't be a problem. Less rotating mass and still stronger parts, just to way I like it!
