there's an old picture of the stingray, before all the work.  now, that hood won't fit...the intake on this 406 is too tall, and even with a drop-base air filter, we can't get the hood to close.  I need a different hood, L88 or LT1...I know the L88 provides like...2 inches of additional clearance off of that stock hood...what about the LT1?  I'm curious because I can't decide if I like the LT1 or the L88 better.

Vette(s): 1972 coupe/350 cid/mild cam/4 spd/20 ft. paint (looks perfect from 20 ft.), but it sure runs nice.

I crossed that bridge recently (no pun intended, referring to your pic)......I thought the LT-1 hood was going to cut it too close as far as clearance. Since the raised area is in the front and finishing more like a stock hood toward the back, my calculations (eyeballing it) indicated that the air cleaner was still going to hit. I'll be installing an Air-Gap manifold, so I went with the L-88. It's more like a true cowl-induction hood.....and there's something magical  about driving and, at the same time, catching a glimpse of your powerplant working. My wife says it's a guy thing....not to mention the menacing look it acquires.

Go with the L88 style hood.
You'll like it better in the long run, and you won't likely have any clearance problems, either.

or...........steal a trick from Rosen, and graft a "stinger" scoop onto an LT1 hood!

btw....what is that white stuff in the pic. of your car? Sand?!

I bought an L88 hood from Ecklers about a year ago.  Finally got my motor and stuff in recently and the hood is on but not painted.  I really like it.  I can't wait to get it painted.  And believe it or not, the L88 hood actually fits better than the stock hood did.  I think you'd like it a lot.

alright, L88 it is...now where can I get some chrome numbers to throw on the side...'406', like the 427 hoods.

I run the edelbrock air gap on top of the 427 L71 with the L88 air cleaner set up, love the look.

Yep, from what I have heard the big and small block air cleaner sit in the same place, get the L-88 set up and get some cold air into that 406.
