Can anyone give me the correct belt and pulley configuration for a 1971 454 with AC, PS, A.I.R. pump and of course alternator?

Michael, try going on line to Ecklers or Corvette America. They usually have diagrams pictured for belt configerations. I have a CD which is a parts manual which I think show diagrams also. I'll check it out when I get home, and get back to you.

Thanks. I have  looked at everything I can get my hands on and the belt configurations shown do not include the A.I.R. pump. From what I can see the inside crank groove runs to the water pump then back down to the crank. The middle crank groove runs up to the water pump, then down to the inside groove of the PS pump, then back to the crank. The outside PS pump groove runs up to the alternator then back down to the outside groove of the PS pump. The outside water pump groove runs over to the AC compressor, then back to the water pump. No indication of how the A.I.R. pump is driven.

Another question for those reading this: has anyone ever tried to use the A.I.R. pump to create vacuum for wiper door, headlight buckets, or power brakes instead iof using it to pump air to exhaust? The engine I built will not create enough vacuum to operate these items.

There is a vaccuum pump available for the headlite/wiper system. I think it is electric, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I have heard some people mention this before, and I've seen a couple in the 'Vette mags, that have them. Don't know where you could get one, tho.
I don't think an AIR pump would work for a vac. purpose. They are designed to pump, not pull.
They have belt driven vac. pumps on a lot of older Diesel cars, too. My Mercedes has one.

On the later years, at least my 78-79s, the AIR belt goes on an add on pulley on the very front of the water pump. I have a 2 groove and then a single groove stacked on top of the 2. All the diagrams I can find show the AIR pump belt to the very front of the water pump, also.  Mike

I agree and have seen the configuration you are referring to as well. However, on all of the pictures I've seen of the Vettes that had the A.I.R. pump running off the 3rd outside WP pulley groove, none of them had AC. I'm sure your 78's and 79's have AC so you should be able to help me. If the A.I.R. pump is run from the  3rd groove in the WP pulley, which pulley drives your AC compressor?

I see what you're saying, you have that direct drive belt on the innermost groove(do you have the idler pulley?). I though only the highest HP bigblocks (without air) had that. But if you have the 2 groove power steering pulley it must be right. Wish I could be of some help. There's gotta be someone else here with your setup.  Mike

Miket - I have a 350 69 with A/C.  I know your engine is a bigger block, but if I took a picture of my set up with the belts on the pulley would that be of any help?

Thanks for trying. Maybe someone else has some information. I suppose I could drive the A.I.R. pump from the innermost groove on the crank pulley, but the car is currently apart getting a frame off, so I can not test align this idea. I was hoping someone could just tell me the way it is supposed to be and I would take it from there and go get all the right pulleys and brackets, etc. The car was stripped of the A.I.R. pump and original exhaust manifolds when I bought it, but it did still have the AC compressor in place.

Mick, Yes that would be a huge help. If you will do this for me, please make sure I can see the position of all the belts and what they drive.

Thanks
