We went to the Classic Corvette Extravaganza (C1-C2-C3) event at the NCM last week. We met with the Sting Ray Registry folks - along with NCM folks (Adam Boca, Roc Linkov, etal). During that discussion, Roc mentioned that some of the "small" events may only be held every 2-3 years - ours being one of those. It was pointed out that "time of year" (mid October) may be a factor. He suggested moving the date to mid September (where the Camaro/Firebird event was), but it was noted that the Mid America Funfest had moved to that same weekend. Not sure now what's going to happen with ours.....
He also noted that the R8C/NCM eXperience may only be held every 2-3 years.
Note that there were NO C1s at this event, and only ONE C2 stayed around (one C2 came and went). So ... C3VR was, by far, the largest group. The Sting Ray Registry noted that had "commitments" from 5-6 C2 folks to come ... but none did. No idea why no C1s came out.
As Walter Cronkite used to say "That's The Way It Is" - at least for now.

CCX's format to include the earlier gens changed mid-stream and was unannounced to us. In most cases I'd wager that people's plans for the summer were already made long before that change happened.
Again, IMVHO, the NCM seems to cater the most to the current gen and gen(minus-1) folks because of the "currentness" of the cars and the dollar signs they see. The rest of the gens are left to picking up whatever time and energy is left over. What they seem to miss is that there are significant numbers of folks out there who are being ignored.
I attended Mid-America Motorworks' Funfest for the first time this year. I couldn't believe the number of C3s that were there. Early attendance numbers for the gathering that I heard were in the 14,000 range for cars and 60,000 for people. What brought that many folks together?!? I think the NCM kids need to get some lessons from Mike on how to put together an event.
I'll probably be banned for life from the museum for these comments, but in all honesty I haven't been impressed with I've seen coming out of there recently.
Its the same thing that I hear about the Labor Day Week end from the people that come. Where are the vendors that bring their wares to all the other shows. The Vendors want to see the numbers before they commit and the people want to know whats being offered at the show before they commit. With all the other shows going on during the summer having been around and building up recignition people don't have the money or time to look for another place to go. By October the weather is starting to change and kids are back to school. I had been to every Labor Day since they opened in 94 except for this year when I dicided to try this event. I only have time for one road trip a year and I make it to the museum. I would like the CCX to grow because I better relate to you C3 folks.
