Corvette Nominated For Spike TV Awards Show – Vote Now
Corvette is nominated in several categories as part of the upcoming “AutoRox” awards show to be featured on Spike TV on January 25, 2005 at 9:00 p.m. “The Ride of 05” and “Maximum G Sports Car 2005” are just a few of the categories Corvette will be featured in. AutoRox is the first ever nationally televised Auto Awards Show where the cars are the stars. The 90-minute show will air on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 on Spike TV. (Check local listings for your area) AutoRox will celebrate the automobile as an icon and what it represents in this country -- freedom, style, speed, music, luxury and personality. Place your votes by visiting the Spike TV site at: http://www.spiketv.com/shows/series/index.jhtml?seriesID=12815&refID=autorox
1997 Corvette Launch Kit
A limited number of 1997 Corvette Launch Kits are available for a $100 donation to the Museum's Building Campaign. These Limited Edition Launch Kits were created to promote the 1997 Corvette and include a hard-bound copy of the 1997 Winter Issue of Corvette Quarterly in a 120-page expanded version, a 1997 Corvette Brochure and a letter from Chevrolet's John Middlebrook explaining the importance of the launch materials. These limited edition materials were provided to media who helped to support Chevrolet's 1997 Corvette launch efforts. A limited number of the kits were donated to the Museum to be used as a fundraiser. Make your donation online at: http://www.corvettemuseum.com/donations/project8.shtml and receive a 1997 Corvette Launch Kit while they are available or call (800) 53-VETTE. Kits are available on a first come-first served basis.
Mako Shark Returns to the NCM
We are excited to have on display the Mako Shark I. On loan to us from the GM Design Center, the Mako Shark is on display in our Design Area for the next four months. XP-755, or Mako Shark was designed by Larry Shinoda, who started with elements of the not-yet-introduced 1963 Corvette design and added touches from the previous XP-700 show car. Much of the car's appearance was inspired by a Mako Shark that Mitchell had caught off the coast of Florida. Mitchell wanted the car to be painted to look just like the fish, which he had mounted in his office. After several failed attempts, his staff quietly borrowed the mounted fish and repainted it to match the car. Over time, the car went through several engine changes, finally winding up with a ZL-1 style all-aluminum 427 big block.
