Racing Podcast: Corvette Racing Readies for 24 Hours of Le Mans

Corvette Racing's odyssey from Michigan to Le Mans is underway, and somewhere among several dozen crates of expensive equipment and fined-tuned parts is a precious supply of peanut butter.

The team will participate in an open test on the famed 8.5-mile Le Mans road course on June 4, and will race for a fifth GT1 victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 17-18. Throughout the buildup to the world's greatest sports car race, a series of pod cast interviews with key team personnel will be made available. First up is Steve Wesoloski, GM Racing Road Racing Group manager, who describes what it takes to transport an entire race team to France. One-of-a-Kind Torch Red Corvette Auction

There is more to it than just being a “one-of-a-kind” Corvette. The Museum is auctioning the one and only Torch Red 2005 C6 Corvette that began as a mission to preserve the dream that all Corvettes are Red!

When the original C6 color palette was determined, a “bright” red was not on the slate. It had been perceived at the time that a bright red would be too harsh for the sleek lines of the new C6. Customers began voicing their concerns, and Spielman and Cooksey began working with suppliers and the plant’s paint department to create a set of painted parts and panels featuring the C5 Torch Red. The one-of-a-kind Torch Red C6 was produced on June 25, 2004. The car was reviewed by several GM Executives and Kettering University students and this led to Victory Red as a color option for the 2006 model year. There is only one 2005 Torch Red C6 in existence. Original documentation on the rarity of this unique car will be available to the auction winner. Thank you to Vice President and General Manager of Manufacturing, Joe Spielman and Corvette Assembly Plant Manager, Wil Cooksey for offering this exciting opportunity to the Museum as a fundraiser toward our building campaign efforts.

For auction terms, conditions or to receive an auction package, interested bidders may contact NCM Development Manager, Frank Ragukonis at: frank@corvettemuseum.com or (800) 53-VETTE.
