Spring Mountain Driving School Scholarship Awarded

Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School has started an annual program to award a driving school scholarship to a National Corvette Museum employee. The objective is to help further the knowledge and appreciation of current year Corvettes for the NCM staff.

The recipient of the 2006 Spring Mountain Scholarship is Lance Bettencourt, a member of the R8C Delivery Program Team. Participating in the driving school will offer Lance a chance to know the C6 Corvette from a performance driver’s perspective. Lance shared that he was really looking forward to experiencing the school in November and feels this will be beneficial as he networks with new Corvette owners taking delivery at the Museum. We appreciate the generosity of Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School and the opportunity to give our team members a true inside Corvette experience. Spring Mountain Driving School is located in Pahrump, Nevada approximately 45 minutes west of Las Vegas, Nevada and offers C6 Z06s, C6 Z51 6 speed coupes, a C6 Z51 Automatic Paddle Shifter and 2004 C5 Z06s – giving students a chance to learn to drive current model Corvettes the way they were designed and built to be driven. For more information on Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School visit: http://www.springmountainmotorsports.com/ or call (800) 391-6891.

Ron Fellows Brings New Resources Together

Veteran road racing driver Ron Fellows thought that two-or-more-heads were better than one, so he brought together some new resources to help field a NASCAR Nextel Cup team at historic Watkins Glen International, one of two road courses on the 2006 Nextel Cup schedule.

Fellows, co-driver for championship-winning Corvette Racing since its inception, first developed the idea to put Pratt & Miller of New Hudson, Michigan together with Nextel Cup team PPI (Precision Preparation Inc.) Fellows saw the advantage of leveraging the successful engineering design and development process of the Corvette C6.R program and wanted to bring that technology and knowledge base to his NASCAR efforts. "Cal Wells (owner of PPI) is trying to move up his race team and maybe this was the way we could help him and also learn a couple things, to go with Pratt & Miller's excellent record in road racing. We wanted to put as many heads as possible together to give PPI and myself the best, new competitive opportunity to maybe win a Nextel Cup road race." Fellows said one of the main goals of Pratt & Miller (P&M) is to make the chassis stiffer, while also making the car turn well. P&M initially built three chassis - one for Jimmie Johnson of Hendrick Motorsports and one for Fellows, both of which ran at NASCAR road course Sonoma earlier this season. A third chassis, intended as Fellows' back up car, will now be driven by Max Papis in his NASCAR debut at the Glen.
