One-Off Corvette to be Raffled at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY

While the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games will bring a lot of horses to Kentucky, the National Corvette Museum in conjunction with the Kentucky Department of Travel will bring a lot of horsepower to the games as well.

On Sunday, October 10 a raffle drawing will be held at 12pm ET at the Kentucky Experience of the Games for a special edition 2010 Crystal Red Grand Sport Corvette Convertible. The car, VIN 14, has a strong Corvette show history and was used by Chevrolet to promote the new Grand Sport all over the country. In addition, Chevrolet's design team has made a few special, custom modifications to make it truly a collectible car, including special ‘one off’ centerstack and steering wheel finish, unique center console leather wrap, special detail on the steering wheel center and special rear badge and windshield decal.

Tickets for this one-of-a-kind raffle are only $20 each, and an unlimited number of tickets are available. The Corvette Museum will be selling them at the Welcome Center of the Kentucky Experience, as well as the National Corvette Museum and online at corvettemuseum.org/raffle. Additional information about this exciting car is also available online at corvettemuseum.org/ky.

New General Motors CEO Announced

General Motors announced that CEO Ed Whitacre will step down from his position as leader of the company on Sept. 1.

Whitacre, 68, will be replaced by GM board member Daniel Akerson, the managing director and head of global buyout for The Carlyle Group, a private equity firm. Akerson, 61, will be GM's fourth CEO in 18 months when he takes over the job.

"I believe we've accomplished what we set out to do," Whitacre said. Akerson has been involved in GM's transition every step of the way, he added. "He's absolutely the right choice."

Akerson has served on GM's board since July 2009. He has worked for The Carlyle Group since 2003. Like Whitacre, Akerson has a background in telecommunications. He worked in top executive positions at MCI Communications in the 1980s and 1990s. He also served as chairman and CEO of XO Communications Inc., where he oversaw a major restructuring, and chairman and CEO of Nextel Communications Inc., where he shifted the company from a regional walkie-talkie maker to a digital wireless provider.
