Len and Elvira Tucker Join One Acre Club

The Tuckers don't let distance from the Museum keep them from participating fully! Len and Elvira Tucker of Tacoma, WA are not only Lifetime Members of the Museum, but have purchased 13 Walk of Fame bricks, participated in three R8C Museum Deliveries, staff Corvette Store booths at events in their neck of the woods and last September upgraded their quarter acre to a full acre.

"I wanted to help fulfill part of the dream the Museum has," Len, who is also a member of NCM's Board said. Elvira added "in today's financial world a lot of people aren't able, so since we could we should."

The couple agreed that they had an obligation to keep the project alive. "I try and experience as much of the Museum offerings as I can. If I don't, as an ambassador, how do I get club members to do it?" Len said.

"Just the small amount we give will help boost the economy of the future. Not today, and not tomorrow, but in the future it will help create jobs," they added.

We sincerely thank Len and Elvira for everything they do to help the Museum! To learn more about the Motorsports Park project, click here.

Museum Launches New Audio Tour

The National Corvette Museum now offers an audio tour to accompany self-guided tours through the Museum. The audio tour is 45 minutes in length and can be downloaded to any MP3 device through the Museum's website free of charge, or visitors may rent an MP3 player at the Museum for only $5 each.

Listeners will hear how Corvette got its name, where Harley Earl got the idea for "Project Opel," why the Corvette emblem was changed at the last minute and how Bill Mitchell's paint shop guys got the car to match the shark.

Susan West Woodard, Program Director of Christian Family Radio in Bowling Green, loaned her vocal talents by recording the tour for the Museum.

The audio tour is currently available in English and can be rented at the Museum's admissions counter or downloaded here.

Let the Police Lead Your Lap!

How would you like to be trailing a state trooper instead of seeing one in your rearview?

This tour is a joint fundraiser for the National Corvette Museum and Trooper Island, the camp supported by the Kentucky State Police.  Tour dates are October 11-14, and the trip is filling fast!

Along the route of the 4-day excursion, participants will visit a number of Kentucky’s famous bourbon distilleries, Frankfort, the capitol of Kentucky and the site of several historical buildings including the Governors’ mansion and the KSP museum, plus two days in the Lexington area, the center of the State’s horseracing industry.

This very special event is limited to 30 cars and the tour fee is $650 for the driver and $350 for their guest. The Museum in Motion tours are very popular and with limited space it’s important to sign up promptly while there is still space. Register online here.

Thunderhill Two Weeks Away!

The third annual High Performance Driving Event is scheduled for September 8 and is managed by the experienced team of leaders and coaches at Hooked On Driving and co-hosted by the Western States Corvette Council.

Thunderhill in Willows, CA is a spectacular track for this event, with challenging turns, straights that let you feel your Vette power, and civilized facilities for drivers and guests alike. This year, meet Kirk Bennion, Chief Designer of the C6, and Gerry Panetta of the GM Design Studio.

Registration is open NOW through both Hooked on Driving and the NCM site. Beginners through Advanced drivers are welcome! Sorry, no convertibles. The driving event is $295 which includes lunch and t-shirt. There will also be an event Launch and Luncheon on September 7th, in Maxwell, CA with a spectacular drive to the track as an option for only $15.

Former Board Member Passes

The Museum mourns the loss of Lifetime Member, Founding Member and former Board Member Del Bunce of Eagle, ID. Del was a big supporter of the Museum and fought a long battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, passing on August 14 at his home.

Del and wife Ileen were avid Corvette enthusiasts, owning several over the years and being members of several clubs as they moved around. They were instrumental in getting approval for the Idaho Corvette specialty license plate. The couple raised thousands of dollars for the Museum, and Del served on the board for five years. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the National Corvette Museum.

RICK HENDRICK VISITS AGAIN

NASCAR Team Owner and Corvette collector Rick Hendrick visited the Museum for the 2nd time this summer, taking delivery of a 2012 Centennial Edition ZR1.

During Hendrick's last visit he learned that Museum Lifetime Member and Supporter Harvey Gluck had ordered a new ZR1, which just so happened to be VIN 0001. Harvey offered Hendrick the chance to buy the car off him, before he ever took Museum Delivery - and Hendrick jumped at the chance.

Hendrick brought with him 5 additional Corvettes for some photo ops on the Boulevard - making a nice display for visitors to the Museum on Wednesday!
