Cal Ripken Jr. To Pace Daytona 500 in a 2007 Corvette

Cal Ripken Jr., known as baseball’s “Iron Man” for playing in a record 2,632 straight games for the Baltimore Orioles, will be behind the wheel of a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette as he paces the field for the 49th annual Daytona 500 on Feb. 18 at Daytona International Speedway.

Voted to baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2007, his consecutive games played record, which took 16 years to establish, made him a popular player with baseball fans everywhere as evidenced by his 19 All-Star Game appearances. “The Daytona 500 is one of the most storied sporting events in the country, and I am thrilled and honored to be a part of it.” Ripken said.

WealthTV, the premier luxury lifestyle and entertainment network in digital and high-definition, announced the winners of its prestigious crystal Viewers' Choice Award in six categories at the beginning of the Chicago Auto Show, and Corvette was selected as the Hottest Sports Car under $50k.

WealthTV conducted viewer online polling during a three-month period, beginning in November of 2006. Adopt-A-Corvette of Your Own Inside the Museum

A new “Adopt-A-Corvette” program has been created as a fundraiser to benefit our Building Campaign effort and to offer families, clubs, members and organizations a chance to be a featured sponsor of a Corvette on display inside the Museum. Adopting families or organizations can choose, according to availability, a vehicle from the NCM or GM owned vehicles to adopt for three months or six months.  The adopter will receive a “Certificate of Adoption” as well as a photograph of the vehicle.

A professionally designed plaque with the adopting family or organization’s name, city and the name of the vehicle and photo will be displayed beside the adopted Corvette.  At the end of the adoption period, the sponsor will receive the photograph plaque by mail.  Adopt a Corvette for three months in return for a $300 donation or for six months with a $500 donation. If you or your club is interested in adopting a Corvette and would like to receive a list of Corvettes available for adoption, please contact Membership Services Manager, Stephanie Morrill at: stephanie@corvettemuseum.com.

Mike Yager Named One of Top 50 North American Car Collectors of 2006

Mid America Motorworks chief cheerleader and founder, Mike Yager was recently named by Keith Martin’s Sports Car Market Magazine as one of the top 50 North American Car Collectors of 2006. Yager joins such notable collectors as Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Charles Cauley, Richie Clyne, Miles Collier, Keith Crain, Lee Herrington, Ralph Lauren, JW Marriott, Jr., Rob Walton, and Don Williams, among others.

The Top 50 members were included “not based solely on size or value of collections, but on passion for and contribution to the car collecting hobby” according to Sports Car Market Magazine. Those chosen have “raised the profile of the collector car hobby, supported and participated in concours and shows, or made it a better, safer or more fulfilling pursuit for the rest of us.” The article appeared in the February 2007 issue.

Sports Car Market Magazine is published monthly by Keith Martin, and is located in Portland, Oregon.
