The North American International Auto Show is next week and will be a history-making time for Chevrolet. This Sunday, January 13 (01.13.13) at 7pm EST (6pm CST) enthusiasts will have the chance to see the all new 2014 Corvette be revealed to the world, streaming live on the internet.

Chevrolet has given the National Corvette Museum the opportunity to stream this LIVE on our website! Tune in to our site at www.corvettemuseum.org/c7 on Sunday for all the action.

Kicking off the event season is the Museum in Motion Collector’s Tour March 25-28.  Starting in Naples, Florida, the participants will be treated to unique and interesting experiences as they travel northward along the Gulf Coast.  Starting with a visit to the very private, limited access Collier Collection, the tour will include stops at Muscle Car City, The Ringling Museum, St Armand’s Circle in Sarasota and the Fantasy of Flight Museum.  Time has been allowed for private exploration and sightseeing as well.  Participants can head over to Sebring at the end of the Tour if they want to experience the track world or just be spectators.

The NCM HPDE schools have become known for offering more than the routine driving schools.  They are attended by many GM engineers and designers giving participants first hand contact with people like Kirk Bennion, designer; Harlan Charles, program manager; Tom Wallace, ret. Chief Engineer; Art Spong, customer quality; and Gerry Panetta, styling studio.  Imagine not only being able to meet and talk to these people but also to have them teach you how to handle your car on the track.

If that isn’t enough to whet your appetite, consider that special guest instructors who have come to NCM HPDEs include, Andy Pilgrim, John Heinricy and Shields Bergstrom.  They will pilot your car around the track and give you a race type ride and an advanced education.

For the first time ever we will be offering a spectrum of activities at Sebring March 29-30 including an NCCC sanctioned autocross and an All-GM judged car show.  Any participant is welcome to the autocross, whether to just try it out, compete for points or times or get rides.  Spectators are welcome at all activities including the HPDE and they can sign up for rides on the track or at the autocross as well.

Chuck and Sharon Fast of Northville, Mich. have been immersed in the world of Corvettes, Corvette clubs and Autocrossing since 1964. In 1998 their daughter Kim Fast joined her father Chuck in Autocrossing until her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia began in 2007. When Kim passed away in 2010, Chuck & Sharon decided to increase their participation with the Museum and became Lifetime Members. In addition to their memberships, the couple purchased several commemorative bricks placed both inside and outside of the Museum, as well as a bench dedicated to their daughter.

“We know that Kim would have wanted to participate at the NCM Motorsports Park, and that's why we decided to donate to the One Acre Club. I look forward to the Park opening as I currently own a 2011 ZR1 that I took Museum Delivery on, a 1967 Corvette that I bought new and a 2004 Coupe that belonged to our daughter, Kim.”

Chuck and Sharon have also been active members of several Corvette clubs over the years including the Corvette Club of Michigan, Flint Corvette Club, Corvette Legends Club and the Ponce Inlet Corvette Club.

It is with great regret that due to personal issues, Ivan Schrodt has resigned as captain of the Wisconsin Caravan.  The good news is that he has been most helpful in finding a more than capable replacement.  Ed Saari, retired CFO and Director - Exhibitors for Bloomington Gold, has been actively working with Ivan on the caravan and has agreed to accept the position as captain.  Ed is now the Director of Special Events-Automotive for the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI which will be a prominent supporter of the caravan.

Ed and Barb live in Bloomington, IL and are owners of a 2003 50th Anniversary convertible.  Ed has begun working with Glen Rowe, Illinois captain, to provide the caravan participants in the upper Midwest an unforgettable experience in 2014.  Please give Ed and Barb your support and thanks for taking on this task.

We are also pleased to announce the appointment of Lake Ellis as the captain of the South Texas Caravan.  Lake and his wife Kathi live in San Antonio, TX and are members of the Texas Corvette Association.  The Ellis' have owned five Corvettes and currently own a 2011 Cyber Gray ZO6.  Lake is a retired human resources manager and Kathi is a retired teacher which gives them ample time to enjoy the Corvette life style.  Our heartiest thanks to them for volunteering for the position, and we ask that everyone give them full support in this effort.
