Indy 500 Festival Board Team Members Make a Visit

The Indy 500 has come and gone, but the hard work and dedication provided by the volunteers of the Indy 500 Festival Board hasnt been forgotten. This special group was recognized as part of an exciting road trip to the Corvette Museum and Assembly Plant last week.

The diligent working board members volunteer approximately 8 months out of the year toward the planning of the many Indy 500 celebration activities and had a full day to enjoy the new Indy 500 Corvette Festival Pace Cars. This is the second time that we have had the privilege of hosting the Festival Board Members and look forward to having them visit again.

7th Annual Drive Your Corvette To Work Day

Friday, June 29th, is the date of the 7th Annual Drive Your Corvette To Work Day sponsored by Mid America Motorworks. In honor of Drive Your Corvette To Work Day, enthusiasts across the United States make " America's Sports Car" their commuter car for the day. Launched in 2001, Mid America Motorworks' Drive Your Corvette To Work Day is an annual event celebrated by thousands of Corvette owners.

"We understand why many owners consider their Corvette to be a special car and only drive it occasionally," said Mike Yager, founder and "Chief Cheerleader" of Mid America Motorworks. "But we think driving your Corvette to work, at least one day a year, is an excellent way to demonstrate just how popular Corvettes are. And it is a chance for Corvette owners to meet other new Corvette owners." Corvette owners who observe "Drive Your Corvette To Work Day" are encouraged to send high resolution digital pictures of their car at work to clubs@mamotorworks.com.

Corvette Racing Leads GT1 in Le Mans Test

Corvette C6.Rs first and third in Daylong Test Session for 24 Hours of Le Mans (Image from Le Mans 2006)

After nearly a year of planning and preparation, Corvette Racing set the pace this week in testing at the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans, the home of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The No. 63 Compuware Corvette C6.R driven by Jan Magnussen, Johnny O'Connell and Ron Fellows ran the fastest lap in the GT1 class at 3:49.207. The No. 64 Corvette of Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta and Max Papis was third quickest among the 15 GT1 entries with a lap at 3:51.628.

Magnussen posted the fastest lap for Corvette Racing with 22 minutes remaining in the session, shading the second-ranked No. 007 Aston Martin of Enge/Herbert/Kox by 1.641 seconds. The scheduled eight-hour session ended with nine minutes remaining due to a red flag. Read on at: www.corvetteracing.com The Le Mans testing was a prelude to two days of qualifying on June 13-14 and the 24-hour race on June 16-17. The 24 Hours of Le Mans starts at 3 p.m. local time (9 a.m. EDT) on Saturday, June 16 and finishes at 3 p.m. (9 a.m. EDT) on Sunday, June 17. SPEED will televise 17.5 hours of coverage in North America starting at 8:30 a.m. EDT on June 16.
