John was excited to be a part of the exciting Museum Delivery experience and had purchased a 2005 Magnetic Red C6 just six weeks prior to being drawn as the winner. “I purchased one ticket on this Corvette raffle and have participated in several of the others offered by the Museum,” John stated. “When the voice mail was left for me announcing that I was the winner, I had to listen to it about three times just to convince myself that it was really happening – this is all just wonderful.” Approximately 100 tickets are left on both the 2006 “Build Your Own Z06” and 2005 Magnetic Red Corvette Coupe raffles currently underway now. Each of these exciting raffles are limited to only 500 tickets to be sold on each. The Grand Sport 001 still decked out in Sunoco Blue and the livery of Penske Racing from the 1966 12 Hours of Sebring, will lead the Corvette parade laps around the Mid-Ohio circuit, starting at 6:30 p.m. May 21. General Motors built five special lightweight Grand Sport Corvettes. While a change in senior management killed the plans for 100-125 to be built, the five cars with the best drivers and horsepower showed they were fast and competitive. The first Grand Sport built, Chassis 001, was a coupe and was finished on Nov. 4, 1962, at the GM Tech Center in Warren, Mich. See the exciting Grand Sport 001 exhibit, meet and greet the C6.R drivers and cheer on the team at the Mid-Ohio race! O'Connell and Fellows have won the GT1 class in every ALMS event contested on the 2.25-mile Mid-Ohio circuit, and Corvette Racing has posted 1-2 finishes in every ALMS race held at the scenic Ohio track.Chevy's factory road racing team is aiming to extend its lead in the drivers and manufacturers championships on the tight 13-turn Mid-Ohio circuit. "Mid-Ohio presents a challenge on several fronts," said Doug Fehan, GM Racing program manager for Corvette Racing. "First, every track we visit this season is a new track for the Corvette C6.R. Track time is very limited during a race weekend, so we have to correlate what we learned previously with the C5-R with the new C6.R. Second, the Mid-Ohio race takes place just days before we have to load the race cars on an airplane to fly them to Le Mans," Fehan explained. "The drivers will be on notice that the cars must leave Mid-Ohio in the same shape as they arrived. With three victories in three starts at Mid-Ohio, Corvette Racing driver Ron Fellows has a winning formula for the Ohio track: "It's a combination of good race cars, good calls in the pits, and good fortune," said the Canadian ace. "Mid-Ohio is like a mini roller coaster ride," Fellows observed. "It's good fun to drive.” The race will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 and will be televised via CBS Sports – Check local listings for additional details . We Want to Hear From You!
