NCM Fighter Squadron Joins One Acre Club
Our mission is to help lead other enthusiasts, clubs and businesses toward membership in, and support of, the NCM. We strive to accomplish that mission through positive actions... Proceeds of the NCM Fighter Squadron are pledged solely to the NCM, making our organization an extension of our Museum, formed by Corvette enthusiasts.
That is the bold mission statement of the NCM Fighter Squadron. Formed in 1996, they came together at a time when the future of the Museum and the Corvette itself, were both in jeopardy. Along with the Internet assault, the Squadron wrote letters to magazines and newspapers, rallying others in support of both the car and the Museum.
Since then, they have been faithful volunteers at our events, and supporters of our causes. Under their watch, our membership has grown from 1,632, to over 35,000, and we have almost doubled in square footage, making our shared vision a reality. So, it’s no surprise that when the NCM Motorsports project came up, they strapped into their flight gear and got busy raising the money for their deed to an acre. They hope that their actions will not only add their vote of “YES” to the project, but that it will inspire other clubs to also participate in this critical mission.
“We’ve been there from the beginning to support the Museum,” says Squadron member Glenn Darwin. “We feel that the NCM Motorsports Park will grow to be a self-sustaining, vital part of the collective Corvette experience eventually, but it’s up to us to get this thing started. Having it in Bowling Green will not only help Corvette’s legacy, but it will help the Museum continue to thrive for generations to come. We hope that other clubs will follow our lead and show their support of this project now, when it matters the most.”

Fireball Run Aides Search for Missing Kids
The Chevrolet Fireball Run Adventurally made a pit stop at the National Corvette Museum today, bringing Camaros, Mustangs, a squad car that looked like it came straight from Mayberry USA, two Corvettes, an Audi, the DeLorean car from the movie “Back to the Future” and another 40 competitors.
Headquartered at Universal Studios Florida the run is a 2500 mile, 15 city, 8 day, interactive road rally which was put together to aid in the recovery of missing children.
Team Chevy is made up of three young adventurers Ace, Randy and Abby, driving the #55 Camaro. “We’re here to represent Chevrolet,” says Ace proudly. “We’re in fourth place right now! Our biggest reason for participating though is to raise awareness about missing children. Over 80,000 children turn up missing every year, and ten to fifteen thousand are never found. We are going from town to town, passing out posters and driving with missing children fliers on our cars, hoping to make a difference.”
When asked what the Corvette Museum Members can do to help Team Chevy win, Abby jumps in. “We just ask that you all go to www.fireballrun.com, and look at the children’s pictures. See if you recognize any of them. If we find these kids, we all win.” Please, take some time to scroll through those pictures on their website when you get a chance. |

NCM Offering More Drivers' Education Courses
Drivers' safety is a new initiative at the Corvette Museum, thanks to the addition of two educational driving simulators and next week we kick off our new NCM Drivers' Safety Academy.
The Academy offers courses not only for teen drivers, but also courses for older drivers which can earn you a discount on your auto insurance. For teens we now offer a 5-hour session for pre-drivers and a 5-hour session for new drivers. The sessions not only cover basic driving techniques and maneuvering, but also permit test information, driving hazards (including texting), how to read road maps, basic car care like checking fluid levels and changing tires and more. All teen courses are free an open to the public.
Special THANKS to NCM Lifetime Member and Master Ambassador Jeff McQuade of Charlotte, MI! Jeff donated some "fatal vision" goggles to be used with driving under the influence simulations!
The Museum is also partnering with AAA to offer a Driver Improvement Class on January 10 from 10am-3pm, and will continue to offer AARP's Older Driver Safety Courses on a regular basis.
