My problem is with the dash lights. All of them don't work! I've checked the bulbs, the fuse, & the power going across it. The interior lights work fine, both from opening/closing both doors, & using the headlight switch. I've tried working the headlight switch clockwise & counter clockwise, but no dash lights. The lights for the shifter are dark also. Is the next step the light switch? I was just wondering if there were any other relays, hidden fuses, or a ground in the system i could check, before I tear apart the dash. Is there anything else I can check? Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks.

Thanks.

John, I had the same problem with my CE. Unfortunately I replaced the light switch before checking anything else. Just make sure you have a good ground and if that is OK then I would suspect your light switch is going bad. Take WD-40 and spraqy it inside of the rod and if that helps it, you have a bad light switch

I had the same problem with my '81. I replaced the switch and life was good again. The ceramic part of the switch usually cracks apart and then you lose the dash lights only.

Thanks for the help! It looks like from ya'lls advice, I'm a-goin' to the light switch! I'm glad there is no "extra" or "hidden" relays or the like. I'll enjoy driving at night! I hate having to carry a flashlight, & shine it on the dash to check things! What a pain!
Thanks again!

Thanks again!

hi guys!
I have also the same problem with my dashlights but just the dashlight at the speedometer and the tacho, other dashlights at the radio and the instruments like fuel gauge, clock, .. work fine. The turn light in the dashboard doesn't work either. the sign for handbrake and distance lights works fine. I'm really helpless about this because I just bought this vette yesterday and don't have any manuals with it. Any hints from your side about this (I don't think it is the switch???
thanks

zschunky,
1st off...Welcome to the C3VR! I'm sure you will enjoy being here. Great bunch of people here.
If your center gauge lights go on and off, and dim when you turn the light switch knob. Then I don't believe that there is a problem with the light switch. I would carefully pull the speedo/tach gauge cluster out.(you have to disconnect the speedo cable and the wire bundle that plugs into the back of the cluster) Check the light bulbs- i.e. black or silvery looking, check for melted light sockets, check the printed circuit board for any breaks in the copper circuits. Definitely get a AIM manual or a Haynes manual for detailed instuctions on how to do most of your own work. They save a lot of grief. Let us know how you make out.

Thanks Sarge81 & 82dukman!
Looks like the culprit was the switch!
Appreciate the help!
