Has anyone here ever done the Power Tour? I just committed to do it this year with my dad. This will be a great trip as we are going to be taking my 99 Trans-Am Firebird. I have to do some AC work before we leave as I never worried about it while just around here and it started blowing warm air last spring and I never fixed it. We will be leaving/driving from York Pa to Charlotte NC a day early so we can see some of the nascar shops then to Knoxville where we hope to do the "Tail of the Dragon" on the way. Then to Charlestown WV and then off to Norwalk Ohio for the summit motorsports park, then turn around and head home. It actually goes to Wisconsin this year but Im already taking unpaid time off work to do this. Dad is now 73 yrs old and I never did a trip with just him so I thought I should make time and this is something he does and loves every year. He says this will be his last year for it and he's been doing it for the last 15 years. Im excited about the trip, but to have an opportunity to spend this much time with dad locked in a car should be a blast! If you have ever done a power tour and have any suggestions please pass them on.

I never took a tour like that, but a couple of years ago The Great American Race came through our area. These are vintage cars at least 25 years old. May even be pre-1960 cars. Some were nearly 100 years old. Any way, they were all having a blast. You are given a course and a time in the morning each day. The closer you are to your time, the less points you get. Low points wins. I think they went about 2000 miles over the course of a week.

Anyway, I am sure you and Dad will have a great time.

See you at Carlisle in August?

Just a update on the Power Tour trip. We spent 2 days in Charlotte, you folks down south are very fortunate to have so much racing history and shops to visit. We had a blast, spent a morning at Hendricks Performance and then went to see a classic car warehouse full of muscle cars for sale. Got to do the Tail of the Dragon one day and the cruisin with a lot of kool cars for many many miles over a 6 day period. There are so many different cars to look at. They range from the newest sports muscle cars to cars dating back to the 30's. Lots of chrome and lots of cars full of the wow factor. Vendors selling anything to make your car faster and nicer. Not many of these cars were for sale and people enjoying the company of other car owners. Best part was I got to spend it with my dad who loves cars more then me! We drove in the 99 Trans Am and I must say it was perfect for the long haul. we didnt do the last 2 days but went a total of 1904 miles. 5 sites in all!
I highly recommend the tour but if you only have a few days do the first 2 or 3 days as thats when the vendors are handing out the hats shirts and gifts.

A friend and fellow C3 owner had his 1947 Cadillac Limo on the tour but had to quit in Charleston WV due to overheating issues.  Had to rent a UHaul truck and trailer to get it home.

My Brother and I are hoping to do this next year, depending on where it takes place. He wants us to take both our cars and do a partial trip, so will see!?
