I think I bought a 250 for over $200.

If you don't have an external drive for backing up your PC on a daily basis, you should!  They're also great for storing your digital photos. (Of course, you should also archive your digital photos to CD-ROM or DVD. and keep them off-site).

you have to sign up for a credit card to get it for 189$... but..  even at 219 (sans 30$ rebate) its not bad.

Not true.

The ad for the Credit Card (giving you up to 30% off) is separate from the $30 mail-in rebate offer.  The max of the 30% offer is $30, so it happens to be the same as the mail-in rebate price in this case.  I suppose it is a bit confusing... but you get the $30 mail-in rebate form just for buying the drive... has nothing to do with the credit card.  I supposed you'd save an ADDITIONAL $30 if you signed up for their credit card.  So it would be $159.
