Finger Lakes are nice driving and of course there are many high quality wineries around the lakes. Also, several Bed & Breakfast places to stay.
At Hammondsport there is the Glenn Curtiss Museum of early airplanes and motorcycles.
There used to be a paddle boat cruise on the lakes. Not sure if they will be operating in 2008.
Lots of fine restaurants and ice cream places too.

If there is any interest in a trip to NH, I'm interested. I would suggest the twisty, curvy Kancamagus Highway, NH Route 112 starting in Conway, NH to Lincoln, NH. While in Lincoln, NH we have to stop at Clark's Trading Post. www.clarkstradingpost.com. Or start in Lincoln, NH and travel the Highway towards Fryeburg, Maine.
I'm all for New Hampshire. As JPD said, the Kanc is a great road. Franconia Notch is just north of Clarks with the Cannon Mt tram. The old man fell so he ain't there any more. The Mt Washington Auto Road is about 8 miles and a 4000+ ft climb. (Has recorded snow for every day on the calendar) Need a good tranny and brakes for that. Rt 113 weaves in and out of New Hampshire and Maine in a little less traveled part of the Whites. Tax free shopping for the ladies in North Conway. No shortage of stuff to do and see here.
I'll be glad to check out lodging or anything else if needed.

Sign me up for the BBQ in May.
When is the best time for NH? Spring or fall?

If you wanted to come to the Finger Lakes area, here are some photos that show some of the scenery.

IMHO, the best time for NH is late June.
JeffM, how are the bugs in late June?

Dave, I can't imagine that those photos are of NY.
Let's face it, there are loads of beautiful places in the East.
I've been to most of those places and can assure you they are beautiful.
I am really interested in going to NH.
Only been once, in late June. Don't remember any nasty biting flies where we were.
I usually hold the BBQ on Armed Forces Day in May. Usually a Sunday...
Sunday, May 25, 2008. Marked it on my calendar.
Make a note to start a new thread in March so we can all be there.
