I noticed...I've done just as much stoopid crap as anyone, and prolly more than most. I just see no reason to give the youngsters that may be around any idears....

So, I'm at the dragstrip, they want pictures of me coming off the line. I normally dropped the clutch at 3,000rpm. This time for the pics, I come off at 5,000rpm...........sideways....... toward the right, and at the flagman. Once I was on it I wouldn't back off...sideways or not. Man I never seen anyone run so fast............He never forgot it either, because everytime I pulled up to the line he would motion, with a shaking finger not to even think about heading towards him again. Another time I won the race (never was beaten), and shut down early. It showed my ET of 12.45, but a speed of 89mph. From that time on I wouldn't let off till way past the traps. You should see the look on the guys waiting for their tows at the end of the quarter. Brakes were never enough in the shut down area........so I had to downshift to let the engine slow me down. I can still see their big eyes when they seen me coming. I was addidicted to speed......the faster I went, the faster I wanted to go. Every week I would think my car was loosing it's quickness........and every week I would actually run faster...........I was just getting used to it. I'll give you more nutty tricks tomorrow. corvette440hp 2009-05-13 10:47:31

So, one day after adjusting my valves, I decide to take my 427 for a test drive. I'm doing power shifts........and miss a shift..........first time ever......dummy me........blow the 4-speed. Managed to get the vette home. Call my friendly Chevy dealer to give them the "good" news. They send out a tow truck to pick it up. They call me and said I blowed it "reel gud". They said they'll go one 4-speed....but that's it..........game over! I look in the garage where the vette was parked and on the flooor was a piece of the aluminum casing. It was about 1 1/4" irregular spaped piece with of all things.... GM cast lettering right dead center. I drilled a hole in the top of it, put a chain thru it and wore it as a neckless the next time out at the dragstrip.........everyone knew I was nuts.

My father yells at me all the time about wasting all my time and money racing. I come to find out, that everyone who came over to visit...gets shown all my trophies, ET win cards, the car, the engine etc. He never told me once...........good job or cool..........I guess he really never expressed himself like that to me.

So if you went riding with me and wanted to open your window, I have to hand you the crank handle. I removed all the door panels, chrome opening knobs (C2) (leaving just the stud rod). Radio...who needs a radio to go fast. Spare tires and the carriers slow you down. Visors for the sun.........that's what sunglasses are for. Windshield wipers add weight and wind resistance. I would remove my alternator belt.........steals hp. At the strip I would remove the exhaust from the collectors on back. I would fill the front tires with excessive amounts of air pressure to make them offer less rolling resistance. I actually would use different tire pressures on the driver's side to the passenger's side slicks. I would jack the car up to coat the slicks with a sticky tire compound. I took off the factory Holley 4-barrel and put on a Holley 3-barrel (1 3/4 primaries and a elipitcal back barrel plate). It was rated at 950 CFM. I had to machine out the manifold making it a common single plane. I had quite a bit of tuning/tweaking to get the carb to work on my 427. I would get to the strip at about 5am. The officials would wake me up when they opened up. I would set everything up...make my two time trials........then go to sleep. Almost no-one was around to see my time trials. I would only start up the engine as I got up near the starting line. I would push the car along by hand before starting. I couldn't run for too long because I was running off the battery only. I would opened the heater core to release more heat if I had to make a lot of passes. I used to tell everyone that to save weight, I wouldn't wear socks or jocks, get a haircut, clean out my ears and nose......hit the john etc....everyone figured I was nuts.......they guessed right. The first time I raced I went to the trophy booth (before I won) and picked out my trophy. They laughed at me.....later on I came back and claimed it. After a few times they became believers and actually would let me pick my trophy, and would put it aside till I won it. Those were great days....
