I got a question that I am not sure if it will work..what I have in my garage is an access to the attic above the garage..heres a pic....I was thinking about putting a box fan in it blowing into the attic..the thing I don't know is ..is the vent ridge that is over 20feet long enough to flow the extra air or should I add some box vents in the roof? Or maybe the powered style fan in the roof..I have seen some that are solar powered.. trying to cool the garage down..since the ceiling is over 10 feet high it does get trapped air in there..plus with the carburated cars in there it always smells like gas..or fumes..once I get this figured out I may be putting AC in there to really cool it down..

My roof has only two round(18-20") turbine vents in it. I also have a HUGE attic fan in the hallway....the two vents seem to be able to exhaust the added volume just fine.
My main attic entry is in the Corvette room, but there is also one about the same size as yours in the garage. I never even thought about stickin a box-fan in there to help eliminate some of the heat.......

I removed the cover that goes up there and realized that the wall for the bathroom over it covers the vent ridge..they put the insulation in and put the foam spacers they would use on the bottom sophett area..seems to work ok but the all the air would have to move thru the 2 inch space where the foam is..up to the vent ridge..I really don't want the whirley birds on the front of the house so I may put I 2 of those low mounted square ones on the roof..one of those box fans that cost what 50$ or so should work fine just have to figure out how to turn it on and off! Got an outlet right there to plug it into..maybe one of those night timer things would work..have it run during the day and shut off at night?? Sounds like fun.

Git ya a pull-chain switch for light/ceiling fan, and install that on the fan, and wire it to be on "High".
I really doubt a box-fan is gonna overload any venting in the attic at all.

Alot of the roof fans are thermostatically controlled, like a roof fan would kick on at about 100 degrees or so in the attic. But you can always just power it to a switch in your garage...on or off...

How about venting out one of the side walls near the ceiling, on a not so conspicuios part of your house???

Don't know the configuration of your house Rich, but maybe you can install cheap gable end vents in the peaks of the gables at the roof. Then run a line from the receptacle down to a convenient place, and install  a switch between fan and receptace. Only takes 1 wire. Simple and neat if you use wiremold. Used to do it all time in buildings I worked on.

BTW Rich when you do decide to air con the garage you might want to consider doing what I did.http://www.bardhvac.com/app_cntr_apps_ac_5ton.shtml

I used one of these units wirth the heat pack so It provides heat and A/C. This what it looks like. SZure came in handy yesterday and today!!phew
