Any Math Wizards Out There?

This worked every time for me and I haven't figured out how it does it.
 
Maybe one of you can figure it out.
 
 
Click here.
 
 
Then click on the little guy in the lower right-hand corner.
 
When you get to the box, type in your numbers.

I'd guess it uses an algorithm based on the possible combinations of a 4 digit number. You might take those combinations, along with know results, and then use that along with the user's input of  3 characters to "guess" the final number. Keep in mind I am not a mathmetician - just trying to remember that horrible calc based prob/stat from college..... dohjgoglick2007-05-07 19:41:39

when you subtract the first two numbers, the diference will always be a multiple of 9.  you are creating a transposition.  (example, your number is 1234, your jumbled number is 4321.  4321 minus 1234 equals 3087.  3+0+8+7 equals 18 which is 2x9.  try it. check out your numbers, try any combination)   Then all he has to do is subtract the two or three numbers you give him from 9 or 18 or 27 and he will have the number you left out.  it's pretty simple really.
