Why do we get attached to pets?  When our youngest daughter was confirmed, we left church and out in the parking lot was a 5-6 week old baby kitty (Maine-Coon)...scared, dehydrated, hungry.  So of course we took it home.  We are Lutheran so we called him Luther.  This past saturday he seemed absolutely fine.  On sunday we could tell he was not well.  We have the absolute best Vet I have ever seen (and I have been around animals all my life...being raised on a minnesota farm and all).  monday morning my wife took him to this Vet and left him...the news was not good.....he was very sick and she could not determine why.  On tuesday night, we met at the Vet and had to make a VERY tough decision.  We had him put to sleep as we held him.  he was just a stupid, dad-gummed cat, so why did I cryCry.  I am a big, burly Viking and I criedCry.  I finally hit the wall to make myself stop.  I keep telling my wife and daughters that I am not an animal love, just an animal liker...I don't think they believe me!  Any of you believe me?

No David...............you are an animal lover............at least to me. My wife has to take our loved ones in when it's time. I come home from work and just cry like a baby. I have to pick up the remains to bury at home. I cry something fierce while buring my little babies. Animals become one with the family, it's so hard to let them go. My condolences to you. Take care, Larry

Hey David, don't feel like the "Lone Ranger" buddy. I'm sure the psychology of this phenomenon is not unusual, though I'm not the one to explain it. Even the toughest guys can be touched emotionally. I think that's filed under compassion, and that's a good thing brother, a very good thing.
