You're right, it is a WHOLE LOT FASTER than a Corvette. 
I saw one at Kadena AFB on Okinawa back in the 70s and that is one sweet bird. They are all retired now and there's one on display at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Ks.

There is one at an outside air museum in Northern Callifornia that we used to go to. They look very cool in person.
