A lot of what Obama says sounds pretty good, now lets see how much of it comes to pass.   Politicians are famous for promising anything to get themselves elected then doing what they really want.  I guess we can only hope and pray that he is able to do what is necessary to pull us out of the mess this country is in.

My bet Larry is that most of it will "come and pass".

Even though Mr. Obama was not my pick like a good soldier I will support him. I hope that he and the house Democrats can pull a rabbit out of the hat and unite this nation while pulling out of the makings of what could be a self destruction into poverty.

I'm about to state an unpopular opinion on this site.  Feel free to ignore it, or to respond.  I've about had it with the Obama bashing here.

I voted for Obama and I'm proud of it.  But if McCain had won, I would support him and hope that he would help the country recover.  Why?  Because he would be the president.  Not supporting him would just make me part of the problem.  I won't go as far to say that it's "un-American," but I think you get my drift.

I voted for Obama because he struck me as a leader with real ideas instead of the same old rhetoric.  I simply didn't hear or see anything McCain planned to do differently to get us out of the mess we're in.  By the way, along with a Democratic President, I also voted for a Republican Governor and mainly Republican state offices.  I couldn't care less about someone's "Party Affiliation."  I want people with ideas and the desire to improve the way things are.

Are we in trouble?  To quote Sarah Palin, "You Betcha!"  We were in trouble on Monday of this week, we were in trouble Tuesday, and we'll be in trouble tomorrow.  We're in a mess and we need some leadership to get us out of it.  We didn't get here overnight, and it's not going to get cured that quickly either.  "The road will be steep."

Socialism?  You're all right.  Gee, we should never take tax money from some people and give it to others.  Let's dismantle FEMA and the next time there's a Tornado in the Midwest, an earthquake out west or a hurricane in the south, those folks will just need to fend for themselves.  Clearly I'm exaggerating, but get over it.  I understand the need for smaller government at times, but this ain't the time.  What was the "New Deal" under FDR?  Huge increases in Federal Spending to put people to work.  Where did that money come from?  Taxpayers.  Where did it go?  To those in need.  Gee, that seemed to work out pretty well.

This is an open forum and everyone is entitled to their own view, but I've held my tongue long enough and felt the need to see the other side here.  I hope I've not offended anyone, though clearly I've been offended by some of the things I've seen here.  That's ok - I'll survive.  I've been more concerned with keeping my friends here.  I hope I haven't lost any of you in that capacity with my little diatribe here.

Last thing - many of you think I'm wrong.  You may well be right.  Many of you think Obama won't be able to make the changes he has spoken of.  Again, you may be right.  At this point, we've got what we've got.  We need to look forward to the next four years and put our faith in those in charge.  Part of putting our faith in them means putting support behind them.  You may not have voted for them, but unless you're one of our international members or plan on moving to Canada, you've got to live with them just like the rest of us.  Personally, I'll choose to live with hope over the next four years rather than cynicism.

OK, I voted, #1900 @ my poling place.  I swear there were voters cards pulled out that hadn't seen the light of day since FDR.

I felt we had NO CHOICE FROM EITHER PARTY from the get go.  Unless and until the media (all media) start looking at facts and platforms and stop focusing on birth certificates and wardrobe costs, we as a people will continue to be hoodwinked.  Voter reform should be a mandate from we the people although my wife did have to show a drivers license as OK had apparently flagged anyone that hadn't voted in the primary as needing to show ID.

I propose the following:

1 term, six years and a "do over" box

Why one term you ask?  The electee will spend the first 4 trying to get the 2nd 4 at which time he/she will begin the "payback" cycle.  A single 6 year term would hopefully allow for some focus.  And lest you say we can't change that as it's part of who we are, remember FDR was elected for a 3rd term and had he been healthy would probably have been elected for life.

The do over box is simple enough.  If do over wins the popular vote by even 1 vote over the other candidates, then no one who ran in the primaries or the general election is allowed to run.  The current administration is frozen for 6 months in true lame duck fashion so as not to be able to pass presidential edicts and executive orders except within certain limitations (no mass pardonings of criminals, etc)

The 6 month period is used by the parties to bring a new slate of candidates, 2 primary debates and vote within 3 months, then 2 debates and general election within the second 3 months.

Finally, we need 2 new parties to fill the roles that have been abdicated by the Republicans and Democrats.  The Republicans, with their anti-intellectual stance driven by the hard right of the moral minority and the Democrats hard left stance toward socialism have left the centrist vacuum that the Goldwater Democrats (old style libertarian conservatives who actually believed in fiscal responsibility) and Reaganesque / Eisenhower Republicans with a much more centrist flare.

The silent majority are not represented by either of the polarized parties and are left to "vote for the evil of two lessers".

My .02.

Right on manget1!

Yes I have about had it too. Something happened the other night that was far bigger than I ever thought it would be.

There is already a change for the better and if folks cant get that, well no one is gonna explain it to em.

But anytime I say anything "outside" the right on this site it gets moved or deleted.

I was so totally on the fence even up until the day I voted. I'm with those who may not have gotten the Elected President of their choice, but this is America, love it or leave it. I don't feel drawing battle lines over a President we haven't even given a chance yet is the right thing to do. We all need to pull together to bring this country back on track. I support the officials we have elected, and pray that change for the better will come.My .02

And I agree. Very well put Marshall my friend.
