Well, here comes Gustav. Three or four hour from now it's susposed to roll right over us. Hopefully, it won't have those 40-70 mph winds they say might be coming. Don't think I'll sleep very well tonite. Wish us luck. Ouch longhorn2942008-09-01 23:05:16

Yep, we dodged another bullet. By the time it got to NW La and E Tex, it had lost those strong winds they were predicting. Few limbs down and only lost power for a couple of hours. I put the Vette in my shop for safekeeping cause the carport it lives under has a big pecan tree hanging over it. We were a lot more fortunate than the folks down south.  At least New Orleans was spared this time. Looks like we have three more storms lined up out there.
Gustav is just sitting on us now. Just rain today and tomorrow. I can handle that. Thumbs%20Up

Well, I can tell you folks!

At my age I have been through many hurricanes and bad storms and this one ranked right up there with the worst of them!

We had sustained winds at 91 mph gusting over 100 mph.  In a six house stretch with mine in the middle, we counted 28 trees down.  My rear neighbor dropped (2) huge pines in my back yard.  Our beautiflul registered 115 year old Live Oak tree at the road took a whipping - the entire top canopy was ripped off.

We still cannot get our vehicles off our property as the 11,000 watt power line is about six foot high above our driveway as I write this.

Unfortunately 2 elderly folks that fled from the coastal parishes within 3 miles of our home were killed when a tree dropped into the home crushing them.  Fortunately, no one else was seriously injured.

There are easily 1,000's of trees down and "0" power in the parish and an estimated 1.4 million folks without electricity.

To make matters worse, there are more feeder bands coming in from the gulf drenching the recovery efforts.

I hope this sincerely never happens to any of you, as this is a total bummer!

I feel for you Rick. Y'all really got slammed down there. I was watching it all unfold yesterday on TV. Glad you came out of it OK. It's has to be tough putting everything back together after something like that. Hopefully you have a generator for power? If there's anything you need, let me know.

Ya..that thing hit Baton Rouge pretty much dead on...watched it hit and run most of the day yesterday on the telly. Glad you survived it, Rick. I've been thu one tornado in my life...that's enough of that for me. I can't even begin to imagine going thru a hurricane every year...

The only good thing about a hurricane is you can see it coming, at least that is what I keep telling myself; whereas, with earthquakes and tornadoes, you never see it.

Yes we do have a generator as I am sure we will be without real power for weeks!

My office is back and running at least!
