So, I have an idea...I've always been interested in stage rallies, and time-speed-distance rallies, and after re-reading some old issues of Corvette Magazine, I stumbled upon the article regarding the Mountain Mille TSD Rally through the mountains of West Virginia.  I'd like to organize a tiime-speed-distance rally here in my state, kind of a tour of North Dakota deal.   The route would probably start in one city up north, run south along the Missouri river, west through the badlands to the far west side of the state....south to the border between ND and SD, east over to the boring eastern side of the state...north up to the Devil's Lake region, since there's some gorgeous driving there, and then west back to the start location.  It would run over a few days.

The winner would be determined in this manner:  each driving team would be given a set of vague directions regarding the route for a stage, and a set amount of time to run the stage.  The closer they are to that time, the more points they receive...arriving late reduces points, and so does arriving early (to reduce speeding on public roads.)  When the team arrives at the end of a stage, they get the directions for the next stage, and the specified time, etc.   At the end of the rally, the team with the most points wins.

I think there would be a lot of interest from a lot of car enthusiasts in the state, and it would be a good way to get out and have fun with some fairly safe competition.  However, since I've never organized anything like this before, and I don't know anyone who has, I have NO idea how to start.  I know I need someone to go out driving and figure out the exact route, and I would imagine I'll have to pay them to do this...I don't know i f there should be entry frees that cover hotel stays for the driving teams, or if I should just leave the teams to cover that out of their own pockets...and I don't know what else is organized.  Plus it'd be nice to get some sponsors, but I don't have any idea how to go about doing that.  I've thought about seeking a loan from a bank, that can be repaid using entry fees, in order to cover the monetary costs...or having a company like a car dealership or auto performance shop provide the funding, and have entry fees cover it...I just don't know where to even start.

If there's anyone on C3VR that can give me some real help with this, I would really appreciate it. Tongue

I looked into doing something similar to this awhile back, if you Google "road rally" or "TSD rally" there was one site that kept coming up for me (can't remember what it was) with a lot of info on organizing an event like this.  Also someone from the SCCA might be able to help, local clubs put events like this together often.  I don't know why you would think money would be an obstacle though?  If it were competition just for the fun of it, you wouldn't need entry fees or prize money and you certainly wouldn't pay for the participants room and board.  You could enlist the help of some friends and put together a local route you were familiar with.
