Guys;

I had the following four codes show on the AZ machine:

1) P0441 - The PCM has determined that the purge flow in the evaporative emission control system is incorrect for the current engine operating conditions.

2) P0340 - The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for camshaft position sensor "A".  (Band 1 or single sensor) (bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)

3) P0300 - The PCM has determined that multiple random misfires have occurred.

4) P0102 - The PCM has determined that the mass air flow input is lower than expected for the current engine operating conditions.

Any help and advice on what to fix would be greatly appreciated.

When you start it, it will run rough, then die.  On the seond start, it will run OK.  Then, while driving, no specific rpm or speed, and completely at random, you get a hard "slam" like driving over a 4X4 in the road only it is definitely engine.

I replaced the distributor earlier this year (March) along with plugs, wires, cap and rotor.  She probably has 3 to 5k miles on her since then.

Thanks in advance.

I would start with troubleshooting this one(PO340). If the cam sensor is shorting/going open randomly while you drive, it will basically "kill" the engine for a second or two, resulting in the hard jerk you feel.

The PO300 is a generic mis-fire code. If you have a scam tool with data readouts, you can see which specific cylinder(s) is missing, and how many times in a cycle.

The other codes CAN be set by repeated restarts.

I don't have any of my stuff here, but I'll look to see if I can find any troubleshooting info...

Joel;

Thanks.  Is the cam sensor something a do-it-yourselfer can do at home or do I need to go to my mechanic?

Dennis, I think the cam sensor is part of the dist., but don't quote me on that. I've been a wee bit fuzzy here lately.

The book shows the PO340 to be a ciruit malfunction, possibly a wiring/connector issue, a bad sensor, or the ECM(computer) We just got home, so I'll look to see if I can come up with any more info.

Can you get me the 5th and 8th VIN # ? Also, what kind of truck is it? PU, 'Burban? I do have wiring diagrams for it...just need to get the correct vehicle.

Dennis, the wiring diagram for the CMP sensor is on the way via e-mail. I hope it helps find the problem. You can check the connectors first, and then maybe hook up a DVOM/scope to see if the sensor is working.
