I know there are a lot of Paypal users here, so thought I'd let you all know what happened to me.
I recieved an email Thursday from Paypal confirming an authorized purchase of $2187.87 from OfficeMax. After going to the restroom to clean myself up, I started researching what had happened. It seems somebody from Charlotte, NC had purchased some computers and used my Paypal account. I called OfficeMax but the order had already been shipped and it was too late to cancel it. I contacted Paypal Account Security and they said they couldn't do anything until after the transaction was complete, then I could file a claim, it would be investigated and if approved, my money would be refunded to my bank account. I also notified my bank and made a police report.
The transaction was completed today and I filed the claim with Paypal. It could take up to 10 working days before I find out the results. If it is denied (and I can't see how that would happen), I can file with my bank and they will refund the money to my account, so at least I've got 2 ways I can get the funds back.
Just thought I'd let everyone know and to keep an eye on your accounts... never thought it could happen to me either.

Wow. Sorry to hear about this Larry. If the shipment was in transit, I'm surprised they couldn't get UPS/Fed Ex to hold it or the police to be there when it arrived.
I do use PayPal for my e-bay transactions and a few other things. Typically, if I do transfer money to or from my bank account, it takes a few days. Are you saying the thief was able to get the money directly from your bank via PayPal? Yikes!
I hope you get your money back and they catch the scum that did this.

This is one reason I refuse to have my bank account linked to PayPal. I have one cc that I use for Paypal purchases. If any shenanigans go on with it, I know exactly where it came from.
Sorry to hear about your ordeal, Larry...I hope they take care of it soon.
btw...make sure you go and change your Paypal p-word! You might even want to set up a new account with different info(bank or cc). Make certain your p-word is extremely difficult to hack.

I change my passwords on a regular basis, including on my PayPal account. Like Joel said, Make certain your p-word is extremely difficult to hack AND do not make all your passwords the same password. I do a ton of online shopping, bill pay etc. and so far no problems when living with this advice.
Good Luck with your recovery!

I just received an email from Paypal and they approved my claim and I am to get a refund of all lost funds. It will take a few days, but at least I'm happy it all turned out ok. I have changed all my passwords to at least 10 or more characters with capital and small case letters, numbers and other symbols. Should be a lot more difficult to figure out. I'm also gonna get a cc with a low limit for use just on Paypal.
