Well...I've said it before, but THIS time, it's the real deal. I have, FINALLY, seen it ALL!
We got a new guy at the shop last week...'posed to be good....I now have to wonder about some folk's idea of "Good".
2002 Musturd we did a clutch job in a few months back. Come in with a noise, eventually determined to be the throw out bearing. Out comes the trans/clutch, in goes a new clutch assy. I hear them fire it up around 5pm. Around 5:45, one of the guys comes to me and says it won't go into gear. I say bleed the clutch. He say "Ain't hydraulic...it's a cable." I say set the self adjuster. He say won't move. I gives up and walks out there to see whuts whut. Sure nuff, pedal is nice and snug...clutch should be werkin, but it ain't. Pedal to the floor, and it will not allow gear engagement. So, they raise it up for me to check out the fork/cable. I sees it has a new aftermarket cable, which does away with the self adjuster, and the cable is tight. If anything, the clutch should be slipping. Only suggestion I have is the guy put the clutch disc in backerds.
Out comes the trans...off comes the bellhousing...off comes the clutch pressure plate...off comes the clutch disc...oh...wait...the disc isn't coming off...not coming off....HUH?
Two screwdrivers and a pry bar later, off comes the disc. Has some kind of funky stuff on it, between the disc and flywheel. I ax if the disc had a sticker/decal on it that said "Flywheel side", as they sometimes do. "NO...no sticky". Hmmmm
Take me pocket screwdriver, and scrape some of the stuff off the disc. Looks amazingly enough like Lock-Tite.....and it is. I had given the new guy a new bottle of Lock-Tite earlier...apparently, I didn't specifically tell him to NOT put it on the disc, or the flywheel.
Yeppers...the disc had lock-tited itself to the flywheel, with a little help from a guy that 'posed to be good.....
NOW....he also twisted off some of the pressure plate bolts in the flywheel....also dipped in lock-tite.
Guess who gets the blame?
Thaaaas rite...ME....I gave the stuff to him....
Top THAT one!

No Joel, I can't top that one but years ago I had my '67 427 in to the local "Vette mechanic" because it was squealing whenever I pushed the clutch in. I figured it must be the throw-out bearing was shot so I tole him to replace it. When I went to pick it up he said "It's done but is still squealing" It turns out that the fork that rides right on the bearing was worn almost all the way thru... He said "you told me to replace the bearing and that's what I did."
This time I said, "Just fix it!" We finally agreed to split the additonal labor 50/50, but these days I would do a charge-back on the credit card and not even take it back to him. I was 17 at the time, so I guess learned a lesson.

Joel, again you make me laugh. When I was much younger working for my dad in the garage, he hired this guy to work with me. The 2 things I remember the most about him is the following. The first day he showed up with an ear ring in his ear. He didnt have it in when dad interviewed him. Now dads an old school type guy, and doesnt believe in ear rings for the male gender! About halfway thru the day it got the best of him so he says why do you have an ear ring. The guy tells him in the pirate days the ring had enough vavlue to pay for the burial should any thing happen. So dad says so your a pirate and turns and walks away. The first day ends with no other issues. The next day dad tells him to pull the old vista cruiser wagon in and repair the rusted brake line. So hes working and after awhile he says he needs help bleeding the brakes. So I go over and pump the brake pedal for him. Then he says hes done. I push the pedal and they go to the floor. I tell him something isnt right. By now dad heads out into the shop. Checks over the job to see why he has no brakes. Turns out he used rubber gas line hose to connect the line together. Dad was pissed and I still remember hearing dad tell the guy to take his ear ring and get out. I was afraid the guy might need the ear ring value that day for his burial! To this day my dad gets angry when ever I bring his name up! Oh yea, I make sure he never has a chance to forget about that guy!
