Great idea Adam. I am sure the rating system will need some tweaking. I think responses to technical questions should carry more weight than member introductions for instance. Member introductions are a priority for me because I think new people get a stronger feeling toward the site when the full members take the time to greet them from the start. However, the introductions are relatively easy responses and should not carry the same weight as a post on how to recharge your AC or change brake pads. I personally joined C3VR for the technical expertise. My two cents.

You are doing a fine job with the site. Much Thanks

Scott
You didn't read that right, or I didn't explain it right...
it is not 1 point per post. It is 10 points for 100 posts.  You'll need 10,000 posts for a Lifetime Membership.

And no, I don't like the idea of the extra work, but I don't think it will be too bad. I just want to give you guys (and perspective members) more reasons to love C3VR!
Opps, I read it wrong and got too excited too fast. SorrySleepy

I agree there should be a way to ignore the post count for "New Member Introductions".  But, I do welcome each member joining C3VR because I think its important  and makes them actualy feel welcomed.

Adam maybe you could get a computer illiterate person to volunteer to maintain this system, sort of give them administrator rights.  Of course they will need to be a little more then just a casual computer user.

Also will previous post counts count?  Cause your already gonna owe Joel some stuff LOL

I agree with Scott and Mark too. My count is over 600 and a lot of that is due to welcoming new members, which I think is important, but doesn't require as much thought and effort as some members put into tech questions. Maybe they could count for half a point instead of a full one?? In that case I'd be closer to 350 or 400 posts towards my rewards points.
Ignore posts in New Member Introductions?? There are several people over on CF that seem to be interested in nothing but post counts, contributing nothing. Gets annoying!
Yup - that's the only downside I can see. CF has big problems with some people posting just to post. Don't think that would happen here, though. This forum really is a good group of people.

You be quite, youse!

I don't know about this one...while it appears a genuine appeal to the membership to participate more, it just seems to me like it might be a bit much work to keep up with it. That being said, I really don't have any tech skills when it comes to 'puter stuff, or coding/language, etc., so I don't know how much extra you would have to do, Adam.
I do agree that the New Member welcomes really shouldn't be considered if this idea goes thru...and possibly the "Anything Goes" forum. Just my opinion on it.

(Like I NEED an incentive to post anything! )

OK, here I go opening my mouth and getting myself in trouble. I think it's goofy and will be a lot of work to maintain. I'm not going to post any more trying to get a "prize".  I post as often as I can, but to subjects that I can add to or entertain with. Several new members from the last year seem to have faded away and I miss some of them simply cause I was able to help or converse with them. I want to post more, but I need the subject matter to do that. I don't think "filler" posts are necessary, and that's what we may end up wading through! I'm on dial-up and read every post as it's updated and it's really annoying waiting on the thread to come up and the new post is just a Smile.

Flame away!

I already find my self posting like a crackhead because of the top posters list!! Dead Now my wife is going to take my keyboard away.Shocked

Just a thought - How will we prevent 1000 one word posts from a member? Especially if someone is shooting for 10,000 posts for a gift certificate.

Hopw about a a contest for DIY articles. The moderators independently vote on them and the prize is decided on internally. This will add quality, not quantity to the site...

To me.   I would rather support by purchasing items then to wait for a curtain post count to see what is avalible for my catch.   Yes, this seems good for those just started here or under a curtain post count to keep them honored here.

I to only post what I know or can help out with.  So my posts are low (to me).   Support and Friends are priceless.

Don't get me wrong.  This IS a very good idea you have.  Just going in the wrong direction.
