Vette(s): 1978 INDY PACE CAR #3016 of #6502 built. Has original Pace car decals still in GM boxes the way it was delivered to GM dealers. per NCRS "UPDATE" Decals applied as of 3/8/02 (ALL ORIGINAL)
Mr. President,
I have been watching this thread for several days now and you have certainly raised up a big ruckas. In your last update you mentioned there were 50 for and 28 against. This is somewhat misleading. Out of the 50 comments made the majority of those made were Gold or Lifetime members. If I am reading your changing right there would be no changing to their memberships. The actual changes would only affect members entering or who have entered thinking this is a free web site and now are going to have to pay for it. As far as the negativety issue it looks as if we have had negativity from both sides of the issue in this thread, name calling and so on. I only hope that this site can survive this and still remain one of the best corvette sites out there.

ya know, the 10.00 dollar membership is not a big thing, because it's ONLY 10-bucks.The problem is that THIS is-10 bucks;GAS is 50-cents more, Insurance is 30 dollars more a month;Water is 30 bucks more,ya all know what i'm sayin here, and before ya know it, your goin for another 150-200 BUCKS a month, and frankly i'm sick of gettin 10 and 15 dollared ta death.enough is enough-I think I'm goin to draw the line here, and say NO to the fee, even if it is a very good site. There are free corvette sites on the net that are execellent

I have mixed feelings about the change and many comments have come to mind, here are my thoughts in no particular order:
- It's $35 just to fill the tank on a C3. Why is $10 such a big deal?? That's less than 3 cents a day!! I piss away that much each day throwing pennies in the dish at the gas station! Get a grip people.
- It costs $10 to go to a movie for 2 hours. This site provides much more than 2 hours a year worth of entertainment. I would assume that by this logic no one who is leaving pays for magazine subscriptions.
- The $10 is easily saved each year by so many people that find out how to fix a single problem without paying a mechanic.
- For the past 2 years that I have been a member I have been amazed that a site this good had continued to be free.
- Information costs money, where else can you get 35 year old carb specs in less than 48 hours. It would cost hundreds for reference books just to learn what you learn here
- "I don't pay to see my friends", If it weren't for this forum you wouldn't have these friends, consider it to be a dating service if it makes you feel better.
- Over the past 2 years I have been one of Adam's top 25 contributors. I have enjoyed sharing my knowledge and adding my 2 cents worth, I have never felt that I should be compensated just because I chose to contribute so often.
- I too would be interest to know what the operating costs are and what the membership money will be used for although I am not concerned that Adam may be realizing a profit. Time is worth money and I'm sure Adam is still operating at a loss for the time he puts into this site.
- I am also concerned about the brain drain factor. For the future, I suggest a 90 day free trial membership for potential members. This would people a chance to see the benefit of this site. After all, most of us have become used to instantly backing out of a site when it asks for money up front. I'd hate to think that people like Ken might turn away immediately after being asked for $10 just to share their knowledge.
- I'm concerned about a loss of membership base, but, it's well worth the risk.
Bottom line: Ya gotta pay to play and since I like to play I will gladly pay.
Thank you Adam for all of the time and money you've invested in this site.

ya know ,I thought about it awhile and,it is a great place to hang out;so how do I go about joining and paying;could you send me the info if you have time.....THANKS...SHADY80

You don't have to answer this, I felt this site was worth the $24.00/yr shortly after joining, thats why I became a Gold Member. The only thing that keeps me from becoming a lifetime member is my Vette. I just did a caculation on redoing the interior and its a little over 5K. Now I still have to finish the suspension about another 3K there then pull the engine and redo that and engine compartment. I love this site and helping and getting help from the people here. I read one of the responses about where does the money go, they have no idea what it takes to do something like this. Keep it real Adam and thanks for the site.

This web site is wonderful if you bought 1979 clunker vette like I did. This web site has paid me back in aces for halted mistakes, useful knowlege, and encouragement to get the darn thing done. Just before the membership fee raise was announced, I had just bought a gold membership. Even then I feel it is a tremendous bargin to be in the club.
Just an occasional visitor but would like to say a few things.
First, I will not join because I am only an occasional visitor.
Second, it is just too easy to charge members to get revenue than it is to work harder to get vendors to sponsor. It is like a union raising dues - $10 this year, $20 next year. Now, with numerous members leaving, it will be even harder to sell the membership to a vendor (3700 vs 500). What vendor will sponsor a forum with 500 members?
I applaud your attemp to develop the site and keep it running, but it is your endeavor and like it or not, it is now a business that you are trying to run part time.
If members are willing to pay for this site, then good for them. I hope they and you will all benefit from it.
Good luck,
Rickc

To all who are worried about loosing valuable information with the leaving members.. DON'T worry! most only have a few posts anyway and most don't contribute as well.. so you will still be getting all the folks that have helped you before...
think about it... It is just not that hard to see...
I have saved 20 times that in saving from members parts...
And for members that say the internet is free... NOTHING IS FREE.. how are you getting on the internet in the first place...?
Oh yea and someone said this is the price of a 1/2 tank of gas... well it is a 1/4 for me... I live in southern California..
just my 2 cents... DOH! 179 to go and I paid for my subscription...... hahahaha
