Vette(s): 1975 Corvette Convertible
I am second owner of the car. It has 52,000 original miles on it.I am in the process of painting it. I see why they want so much for a paint job! Hope it comes out good! This is my first fiberglass paint job. Prep and more Prep!
I will have to think about it come June. I don't mind paying to help support the site. My only concern is I have done this numerous times and then the site bellies up. I like this site and if I stay I will become a gold member.

I just wanted to clarify my thoughts a little more. I have posted 1 or 2, less than 5 questions anyway and have answered many many, my post count is just over 200. I have never sold anything on the site. I just don't feel that I should have to pay to share my experience. If I was more on the receiving end of the knowledge, then it would definately be worth it. I will be happy to participate freely and ungrudgingly until my membership lapses.
This site has been an invaluable tool inasmuch as my 70 Roadster is my first Vette.
I cannot believe the all the negativity either.
I am in for the foreseeable future although I am already a Gold Member.
This site has been a wonderful resource and has saved me a whole lot more than 10 measley bucks or even the 30 bucks for my Gold Membership!

Its interesting to me that some folks have quoted the C5 Registry & its $65 membership fee. I also happen to be a member there & have been for a few years. Their site doesn't contain anywhere near the amount of information that the C3 Vette Registry does, but they do offer great discounts on C5 parts & services. I also belong to the NCOA, the National Corvette Owners Association. For a few years all I received from them was a newsletter & a tired old key ring. They now offer a roadside emergency service for corvettes. I think that service alone is worth paying the extra money. Especially when the majority of tow truck drivers have no idea how to properly transport a corvette. Some members are also members of the corvetteforum. While to the membership it is a free site it is still paid for by the vendors who advertise there.
Bandwidth is expensive, hosting & storage are expensive too. There are essentially 2 paths to follow: the first is to remain a free site. If this is done & the bills cannot be paid then we will probably see areas of this site disappear that we take for granted.

The second is that a fee is charged to help offset the costs associated with maintaining & hosting this site. When I first considered becoming a member I looked at the different levels of membership & decided that since I was now a C3 owner that it would be better if I just went for the whole enchilada.

There seems to be some misconception that Adam is down in the Bahamas laying on a beach sipping pina coladas & raking in the bucks. From what I've read he is a hard working individual who was recently unemployed but now is working again at a job. If he makes a profit here that enables him to enjoy life a bit more then the more power to him.
Adam, Sorry I'll have to cancel also. I don't have a C3 I only joined to help with The Museum's 50th celebration.

I am not as experienced as most on this site however I have learned a lot and try to share with all. What makes a community site like this work is the support from everyone. I realized the value early on and made sure I was being as much a 'giver' as a 'getter'. For those of you who decide to leave, we will miss your input. Please reconsider the value of this site and stay around to enjoy its benefits.

Your math is correct. However, 3700 people will NOT pay. If 500 people pay, I'd be surprised! As you have probably already read... many people are choosing to cancel their membership now.
Out of the 3700 registered members, only about 1000 of them visited the site this month. That means only 1000 are what I consider active. Which is how I figure if 500 paid, I'd be surprised.

This was not a decision we took lightly. It is a matter of necessity.
I expected that some people will not want to pay. As is their option. What is intersting is while many people have said "cancel my membership", quite a few others have decided to upgrade today!
I really, truely apprecaite all the support in the form of the nice comments above and the financial support from current and new paid members!
