[QUOTE=Tuxblacray] I have been to many of the NCM events and frankly if they want a better turn out they shouldn't charge for everything. (tours, racing, dinner, etc.)
I have said this before but just think about it....
Mid America puts on the Funfest each year... Cost to get in if ya have a vette - $0.00
Cost for T shirts & Poster - $0.00.
Cost for show entertainment - $0.00.
Mike has been operating on that "If you build it - they will come principle". It started out with less than 500 vettes in front of the warehouse. Now it is 15000 vettes and a 3 day event.
My wife & I have been every year, it doesn't gouge my pocketbook and it is a GREAT time! Do I spend money (you bet) but I don't hafta to have a good time. If I go the NCM events I hafta spend money for a good time or a can't go. It makes a difference... compare the numbers... (MA vs. NCM)
If ya don't believe it I can prove it... we have taken our local car show from entries of less than 200 cars to over 1000 in 3 years. How? free stuff. T - shirts, auto supplies, lotsa money, dinners at local restraunts, raffles, 50/50's & lotsa trophies, bands the night before, etc. You name it we give it away. This year we are going to shuttle people in from off site parking areas cause it absolutely overuns our downtown with cars. Visitors are having trouble finding a place to park and it's a long walk.
Just a thought...

Iffin' I can't make it to Carson City, and as much as I'd love to, my vacation vs. work time is getting more and more problematic, I WILL be in Effingham this year.
Gonna visit my brothers, etc and then I'll drive down from there every day (39 miles). You goin?

Oh yeah Jimmy be there with a couple o cars this year. Already have my room as well. Is it time yet???

The one big difference between MAM-FF and anything the NCM does is $$$. And the entities themselves are entirely different animals (for profit vs non-profit) so its like comparing apples to oranges.
Mike puts on just a few gatherings each year and I'm guessing has a pretty good sized advertising/marketing budget to write off a lot of the expenses. Sure MAM brings in a bunch of sales dollars - but look at their product offerings compared to the NCM store.
On the other hand the NCM hosts considerably more, but smaller, gatherings each year. And dollars spent on those take away from operating and expansion budgets. To cover expenses for everything means charging for everything.
I'm not condoning or condemning either one - just trying to level the comparison field a little.

Apples an oranges are different but are both fruits. Identities though for profit & not for profit both have a goal to raise revenue.
More to the point my illustration was not that NCM necessarily needs to utilize MAM or my local car show (which is non for profit)as a role model as such but that they need to develop some type of an incentative to draw a crowd. Point is if you want to make money then you have to spend money. I think it is somewhat unfair to expect to the participants to pay the entire amount with little return for the investment.
Tying in different Forums an clubs work well for NCM because people go because their group is holding a gathering there. (a non monetary incentitive). Maybe these type groups could run the events with NCM backing with a reduced rate or no charge for those members.
Maybe NCM could donate floor space in the museum to a couple of the attendees cars for the group working the in a raffle form. (Wouldn't you just want to tell the world if The Toy was picked to be on display there?) Maybe, NCM could work out a deal with the GM Plants test track if a group works an event a drawing is held an a lucky sole or two gets to cruise a new vette on the track. Maybe its something as simple as free brick in the walk or somethin. Bottom line is the more they give the more they can expect to receive in return. J.M.O.Tuxblacray 2007-02-18 22:22:29

Change the date.
October is a touchy month for us northerners. I don't want to take a chance on being down there and in the meantime there is a freak snow storm happening back home. Like this past Oct. I couldn't imagine trying to navigate going through 6"+ of snow in a vette. And then subject the car to a nice salt bath. Yeah, that's healthy for the chrome and aluminum parts.
. And not all of us can afford a enclosed trailer for our cars.

C1 thru C3 owners usually have a lot of time and money tied up in their cars just like their C5/6 counterparts. I personally don't want to take a chance on possibly wrecking my car. That's my .02 cents.

I agree with Darryl81, mid-Oct is getting late in the season for us northerners. But, I don't think I would want to be there in July either.
The weekend before or after MAM (Sept. 21-22 this year) might work.
Move the Pace Car event to the first weekend in Oct. or even combine it with the C1-C3.
Truth be told, I like the small, intimate group setting.

I agree with Dave W. and Darryl, not a good time of the year.

I too like looking at the vendors and all of the stuff, as well as all of the vettes. It seems that most everything these days is geared towards the C5/C6 crowd. I realize this probably makes sense to vendors, GM, and the NCM, because that crowd is spending the big bucks right now to buy the cars.
What they forget is that right now C1s now cost more than the C5s and C6s, the C2s are about that price or higher, and now some of our cars are reaching that range.
It's seems that these days the newer cars get the attention and the prime spots. I don't know about you guys, but I've spent enough on my car to buy any of the C5s I see on Ebay. I buy hats, shirts, pins, magazines, have memberships to 5 car clubs, and everywhere I go it seems that the attention is placed on the newer cars. (With the exception of C3VR!!)
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if the NCM wants more of us to go, they should put us eariler in the year when the weather is nicer, and not place us at the end of the year as if we are an afterthought. The newer cars are built to handle the weather later in the year, and ours are not. Get more vendors, have classes and demonstrations geared toward our cars, maybe even let us drive the test track. Show us that you care about our cars and our crowd.
After all, this is the National Corvette Museum, dedicated to the history of the corvette, and we are that history.
And yes, I am a NCM member.
