I been tinkin...yeah, I know, that may not be good!
Is there any interest in a complete, step-b-step "How To" on building a transmission
I have been tossing this idea 'round in me head(man...does THAT hurt!) about doing this for a while, now.
What I be thinkin is how to disassemble, and rebuild the trans, along with a few "tips/secrets" on how to make one shift better, and survive.
I just happen to have a '78 'Vette in the shop now, and I took the time to take a few(75+) pics of it in various stages. What I have is for a 350 trans, but youse guys with the 350C(lock-up) would use the same basic info.(I can also do a 400, or 700, if need be)
I will be putting together the text for this project in the next few weeks, IF there is sufficient interest in it. My biggest problem, tho, will be in the "publishing" aspect of it. I know nothing about doing editing on pics, to make them small enough, and clear enough, to insert them into an article(text) worth "publishing".
(can you say"Desktop Publisher"?
) I would definitely need some assistance for that.
So, how 'bout it C3VR'ers?! Is it something that ya'll would be interested in

Joel,
Speaking for myself I would love to learn about automatics. I've tried to decipher how they could possibly work but still don't quite get it. I look forward to seeing the project.
Thanks,
Scott

Joel,
That would be awesome.
If you want to e-mail me pics, I can resize them for you. Or there are several software brands out there that would allow you to do it yourself. Let me know.

Thanks, Dave!
The only prob. with that is, it's over 13mb of data(pics only)!! My e-mail won't allow that large a file
!
Suggestions? I do have the pics on CD at this time, and the text will be added as time allows.

Vette(s): 1980 with a Banks Twin Turbo
1969 Convert Big Block
1996 Grand Sport Convert
I will addmit that I wondered why there wasn't a Project Link. I'm not sure where I sould start but I'm the original Owner of my 1980 and thats about when the project started and its been going ever since. In the 80's with Rummors of a Vette Super Car(ZR-1) and thinking we were stuck with low compression for ever I went with the Turbocharger plan. Used a Gale Banks kit although at the Time he wasn't doing them and I had th Fab the Exhaust Manifolds my self and a Bunch of Plumbing. Used Herb Adams Sperical Bearings in the A-Arms and Trailing Arms. Used Springs and Sway Bars by a new Co. called Vette Brakes. Made Wheel Spacers and used C4 17" Wheels when they came out. Intalled a 85' 700R4 Trans and a better one again in 1990. Built a Good Engine in its day using Ported 441 Heads ,Steel Crank,Pink Rods, and new for there day Hypertecnic Pistons and Hyd Roller Cam. Made 474 Hp and 504lbs Trk. In 1989 I won most Popular Car in the World of Wheels Car Show in Seattle having never having had a car in a Auto Show. I'n 1993 I ran the car in the Nevada Sierra Classic Open Road Race. Ran the 140 MPH Class and ran 168 MPH threw there Radar. Threw a Fan Belt on the 13 mile Straight and DNF'd. Life was getting more Complicated at the Time and the Car was Stored for 12 or more Years up till a couple Years ago. Then I started Modernising it.The Car was fast as could be but just didn't run all that well. 800 Double Pumper Carb on a 350 fouled Plugs and Washed Rings. Accell Gen 7 Fuel Injection was first in order and made a new Car out of it. What an Improvement 25 years of Tech can make! I have built an All Aluminum 400 ci SBC to install but have been Prepping the Car to get it ready. Replaced the Body Mounts and Brake Lines and Fabbed new Fuel Lines.Replaced all the Suspension Useing VBP including the Steeroids Rack. Used a Dewitts Alm Radiator and Electric Fans. Used Vintage Airs Street Rod AC and Serpintine Belt set up and it bolts right into a C3!!! (nice Kit) Built a new Exhuast using 3" 304 Stainless with Random Cats and Duel outlet Borla Mufflers. Out with the 700R4 and in with a TKO600 using a Twin Disc Hyd Clutch.( don't bother with the Hyd Clutch) Built the Crossmember so that I can run the Exhaust C4 Style in the Transmission Tunnel. Using C5 Tips. Just Finished tonight and tomorrow I'm adding Fluids and Checking for Loose Bolts. I need to make it run pretty soon as I'm leaving for my Job in Alaska next week till the end of Summer. Yes You can say I'm a bit of a Project Guy and a Hot Rodder....Richard...
Joel, count me in for an Auto Trans learning curve. Know nothing about them as I have been a "manual" guy all my life, but now that I have one I am keen to learn b4 I HAVE to learn !!! Go for it !!! (please)
