This is good Adam. The only question I have is why can't we have these forums on 24 hr active thread list or email notification?
Those pages use queries of the database that do not check the permissions (or subscriptions) of the current user.  So there is no easy way to filter them out for those that don't want them. So I have to just turn them off all together.
It took me a minute to digest what T has asked. In lay -computer terms:

*Regular post subscribers / get e-mail notification.
*Special post subscribers / no e-mail notification.

My question will be more simple. Why make Humor threads special?

I understand the Anything Goes to keep it family based. Humor is just another thread.
Seems like if you didn't want to be there then no reply is necessary.
Without the email notification I probably wouldn't be on the site as much. (might be a good thing for some) It is a prompt for me to go take a look.

Just curious..... and not quite sold on the "new" change yet.

Now that I think about it more, I can probably put them back in to the email update, but leave them out of the home page and 24 hour page.

The email update would only contain a few threads titles at most from each non-vette forum.

But on the home page or 24 hour page, there would be as many as are recently posted. Being that the main focus of this site is Vettes, some people complained that is it getting too crowded with non-vette stuff.

So I guess you could say I'm looking for a happy medium.

If so, sorry for my part, was never the intent.

Adam as I have personally stated many times the thing that made me join this site was the group of people you have attracted.
I enjoy the tech help side and the seeing what my new friends are up to side as well. Not taking any sides but when I look at the 24 hour post if I see something of non interest I just skip over it.
I not sure if you ever stop any post or not, mine have never been stopped.
But to hear about a needy member that just a few nice words of support may put a litle joy in their day or the special things like helping your nephew.
That is what keeps me here every single day.
You have a great family here and I think most like both sides of the coin.
Just my humble opinion.............Wink

It is not like these non-vette forums are going away. They're still there. Just the activity on them won't be on the home page or 24 hour page. You can still find it by going to the Active Topics link at the top of the forum pages, or by going into those forums individuallly, of course.   Also, things like like members needing support typically wind up in C3VR Chit Chat, which WILL appear on the home page and 24 Hour page.

As I have learned in the past, it is impossible to make EVERYONE happy simultaniously, so I'm trying to find a happy medium.

What I was trying to say earlier is, personally I don't have a problem with separating humor threads from non humor threads. I really don't have a problem with subscribe or not. what I'm trying to say is some of the topics in non Vette related are a way to communicate with each other aside from our cars. Yes this is a Vette forum However being a part of this site has given me friends on a personal level aside from our cars. For example when Patty's father passed away I was totally overwhelmed with the support we received from all of you. Another example SRJ. When Jim went through his trauma, I looked for the emails every day. Sometimes I have time to read them, and no time to log on the site.

Now I guess you can consider this flooding the site with non-Vette related topics But is it important stuff shared among our extended family?

Simply all I am saying is whether you separate humor from non-humor or ask for subscribe or not really isn't the issue for me. What I feel is important is email notification, and 24 active thread list for the important non-Vette related topics. We can still do this without flooding the topics with humor. If ya want humor (as all of you know I love it) then go there. If ya don't, don't.

I love this place and will continue to no matter what the decision is.  Thanks to you all,  "T"

Terry, please see my post just above yours. These things aren't going away. They just won't be as prominent.

Thanks Adam. You did beat me to the post. Using the chit-chat forum I suppose is an acceptable alternative.  However I, as others, am not really sold on the changes yet.
It is good to here others opinions.

Hi gang ! Adam, I didn't really notice you inviting opinions so I hope you'll forgive me but, once I've satisfied my technical needs, I return daily to interact with my vette family, and I only come to the site from my email updates and responses. Other avenues seem more time consuming (for what it's worth).

I had gotten unsolicited opinions which is what brought about the change. Not everything I do here goes to a vote. I try to make the masses happy.
As a compromise, I will be putting them back into the email update, but not on the home page or 24 hour page.Adam Wartell2008-09-17 10:36:50
