With the survey that went out recently I have received a number of comments from newer members that feel forums threads too often get off-topic and contain a lot of jokes and comments that only a select few may understand.

I know there are many members that have been around for years and know each other even to the point of friendships outside of the site - which is GREAT!  However, I ask that when you create posts, please consider that many people reading the posts are either new to C3VR or have no idea what you're referring to.

I'm not saying to stop with the camaraderie that is part of what makes C3VR a great place, I'm just asking that you please consider EVERYONE when making a post.

You could ask yourself some of these questions before you click the POST button....

 1. Is it staying on topic? (If you don't know what this means - think of it this way... is the content of your post directly related to the first post in the thread? If not, you're off topic).
 2. Will most people understand what you're talking about? (If not, consider adding to your post so that it will make sense to most people).
 3. Will it offend anyone or violate our Membership Agreement
 4. Does your post only include a "joke" or does it actually add to the value of the thread? (Jokes along with added value are fine. Just a joke on a thread looking for help or info, is not.)
This is not an all inclusive list.  Just consider ALL members when you post.

C3VR will never grow if we forget that there are new people joining all the time!

I can relate this issue to the first year my son joined Cub Scouts and went to the first Pack meeting.  No one even acknowledged that we were there. We had no idea where to sit or what we should be doing.  The majority of people there knew everyone already from previous years and knew what to do at Pack meetings. But they forgot that there are new folks there.  We felt very left out. For Scouts to succeed year after year, the new folks must be made to feel included.  C3VR is the same way!

Thank you for your cooperation and support!

You should have gotten an email from me about it yesterday.  Check your inbox, spam or junk folders.  If you can't find it, use this link, but PLEASE ONLY ANSWER THE SURVEY ONCE:

Hope I'm not off topic...did this survey also go out to "TRIAL" members? or just paid members

You're not off-topic (the original post talks about the survey).

Yes, it went to current trial members as well as current paid members too.

Just received this via the survey:
The staying on topic deal is bs. Would be alot more friendlier if we could "stay on topic" and have some fun. The site is only good if you want to know where the red wire goes. Does not encourage new folks to stick around if you are not doing all the work on your car yourself. Canadian members should also be treated the same. That isnt happening.
I don't know who sent it and I'm not even sure what this person is trying to say.
I'm not trying to stop people from having fun here, and certainly don't know why Canadian members would feel they are treated differently.

My 2 cents ...are you getting this responce from trial members who have no money invested.....we have talked about how this site is slammer free because paid members have made a decision and paid a membership fee.
I enjoy talking to new members, but only if they are willing to at least give a name. If they look around and don't like it they move on, the ones that join are the ones we want. The membership fee is a GREAT FILTER. If they like it they will invest in it.
It's a great mix of .......well we been over this to many times and I'm now off topic.

Your 2 cents are valuable (even in today's economy).  Obviously there will be some members that find us, try us, and hate us for whatever reason(s) they may find.  But one reason we can control is making sure new members feel included (trial or paid).

Thanks.
