I think this is a great site. I've gained a lot of valuable knowledge and advice over the years I've belonged. I hope I can someday start to repay some of that. I do admit that much of the joking and camaraderie is over my head since I don't have the money, time, or for the last couple of years, even a running Vette to attend any of the events that many of you go to, but I'm hoping someday I can get to some of those - then the jokes will make more sense. Gotta get my car on the road, first though. Better go out in the garage and do some work!

1:The site is only good if you want to know where the red wire goes.
2:Does not encourage new folks to stick around if you are not doing all the work on your car yourself.
3:Canadian members should also be treated the same. That isnt happening.[/quote]
I would have to agree with many of these points.
When I joined I dont remember any of this "mother hen" approach to the site. There was alot more folks posting and some great personalities on the board. As someone who has frequented motocross and fishing message boards for the last 10 years I feel like this site is only a shell of what it could be.
Thats what makes the gatherings so cool is you get to see some personality of the members. This is possible though the regular board also if allowed. But we wouldn't always be "on topic".
Read ebo's "chirping noise" thread. Half the post in it arent on topic but its a great read with lots of banter. And the questions get answered.
The #'s speak for themselves. How many folks come here and how many stay?
I know when I signed up for my lifetime membership and it took 4 months and countless e-mails to get any of the swag I was supposed to get by joining, it was a bit of a let down. If I could get some poor fool to send me $300 for a message board I would next day air them their stuff.
As far as the Canadian thing I would think that reply has to do with why does it cost anywhere between $5 and $50 MORE to join if your from north of the boarder?

I don't under stand what you mean by "When I joined I dont remember any of this "mother hen" approach to the site."
Did you say "The #'s speak for themselves. How many folks come here and how many stay? " as a good thing or a bad thing?
As for this comment: "If I could get some poor fool to send me $300 for a message board I would next day air them their stuff." First, the "stuff" is custom made for each lifetime member and involves me and two vendors to get the stuff produced and shipped out. Second, I'm sure I told you then and I've mentioned to many people in many ways... C3VR (and my other sites) are a VERY part time job for me. I have a family, a full time job, a wife that works nights and weekends and other responsibilities that come before C3VR. I'm not saying that the members aren't important, because they obviously are important to the success of the site. However, when it comes to things like mailing out member cards and lifer swag, I don't always have time to get that done. It takes a lot of money to keep this site going and I think many people have agreed that charging a fee helps keep out the riff-raff while helping to keep the site alive. I don't make much of a profit on this site. In fact, I'm starting to get concerned that money is running low in my Vette Registries checking account. If it runs out, this site's existence will be in trouble. I can not afford to keep it running with my own money. As with everything the economy is causing C3VR trouble. Advertisers are not renewing and not as many new folks are signing up.
As for the Non-US memberships costing more... I've also mentioned this before... Standard Memberships cost the same for everyone because they are online only. Gold & Lifetime membership cost more for Non-US addresses because those types of accounts involve mailing things to them (member cards, stickers, shirts, newsletters, etc) and postage to Non-US addresses cost more. So the extra fee is to cover those costs.

I'm with ya Adam. Its a royal PITA to run any kind of website and it takes alot of time and money. Its a steal for us to pay what we pay for the content held here.

I've belonged to other sites (non auto) that required a yearly memebership fee to partake.
I'm sure that some people lose site of how hard it is to run a web site. Its not just " plug and play"
There is so much behind the scenes BS that has to happen, that it can become a full time job to own and run a websiste.
As a side bar, if I can help with anything on the site my offer still remains on the table..
T-mans, no disrespect, but the "mother hen" approach to the site is what keeps people like me here. If I'd have asked some of the dumb questions that Ive asked here over on Corvetteforum (for instance) Id have gotten blasted. If you dont believe me just go search their archives....its full of condesending remarks by the higher up towards the newbies looking for advice.
In fact the willingness of people to help one another has motivated me to tackle some projects on my vette that I would have normally had my mechanic do.
We may have the inside jokes in our threads that might confuse someone doing some research, but all in all its very respectful and probably the most informative C3 website out there.
The members here are beyond helpful to one another. I witnessed it first hand at Effingham and it was all I needed to see to how special a place this is and how special these people are. Some folks may not get that, but its their loss. Its a hard concept to understand until you meet the people and interact with them face to face.
Its hard to please everyone all of the time, but the members here try very hard everytime.

Some thoughts from a newish Lifetime member. When I get around submitting the information that Adam request to get the goodies that C3VR offers life members, I would expect to get those within a couple of months maybe a year at the most. After all I haven't submitted them yet but when I do ..... I expect quick response even if I do not provide it.
Let me think I have been a lifetime member for close to … Cannot remember and too lazy to go back and look.
Just to keep life in prospective it is a trend everyone goes through. It will pass with time. Remember that a select few have been rewarded with owning a C3 during that time. God first, Family second, Corvette third or maybe it is Corvette second. I not sure. I must have read this somewhere I'm not bright enough to think of it myself. I suffer from the Dory Symptom.
(for ebo and others that may not have had the privilege of seeing Finding Nemo for 10 or more times with the grand kids - Dory was the Regal Blue Tang in “Finding Nemo” you know the one that every moment was a bright new day)
ebo see you were wrong I did not get paddled yet!
Oh to keep on thread - On Fishing sites, I do agree I would not put up with this type of banter on the fishing forums after all fishing is serious business and the forums are free. Corvettes (C3’s) are a hobby that you have the privilege of poring money into.
Without C2VR I would be still be looking for the some torque specifications on the net that Adam provided about 30 minutes after I asked if anyone had that information.
Payback is the reason to become a lifetime member.
C3VR is a place to get help and have fun is the reason to keep coming back to the forum. And yes we are a family and we do have disagreements and clicks to contend with but we are a family we just need to be mindful of the newer members and your old friends and continue to be helpful and friendly and have fun.

Gilbert, what we need here is RTPR........ maybe 5Y's economy sucks, people are cutting back on non essentials, not buying classics, not fixing classics, not signing up to C3VR, Adam is worried.
ebo
It will pass as stated.
What I sugest is everyone keep a dozen or so C3VR flyers in your vette and when you go to your local cruise nights hit on the C3 owners. Everyone hands out flyers at shows. Just do not leave them on the seats! put them on the dash or windshield or face to face.
Saw the whole thing, dude. First you were all like "whoa", and we were like "whoa", and you were like "whoa..."
.......That would be the turtle Dude in finding Nemo...........CRUSH

I forgot about CRUSH find a solution do not fret about the problem.
Great idea on the flyers actually. Where do you get them or did you make them up? In either case and someone put them on the site where a pdf of them could be downloaded and printed when we need them.
Adam just what you wanted a change. Could you put up a place that pdf flyers could be so that you could click and drag one down. It could be used for gathering and other things. Of course there could be a place on the forum that already has that I just do not know about it
Ebo CRUSH uh. That fits.

Adam it is Ebo's fault. He made me do it.
