Topic: Please consider our new members
in Forum: Official C3 Vette Registry News and Information

Having been involved with a MX site that has over 18,000 members I do see how much, or little work it takes to run a site. Now that is a free site so we don't have the challenges of all the money changing hands.
You ask for input, I gave you mine and because it wasn't what you wanted to hear maybe step back and take a look at it. In my business I learn a lot from my customers and ask often for their feedback.
That has proven invaluable to our success.

I am here because I've gotten invaluable advice, both from my own questions and from researching previous posts. And this forum doesn't nail me to the wall if I choose to use a non-original part for cost or reliability reasons, or just because I want to.
I'm a Standard member because I didn't see any perks from the Gold level that I needed. I'm not a Lifetime Member (although I wanted to be) because it would take 20 years for the Standard level cost to meet the Lifetime cost. I don't expect to live that long.
As to banter. Since the first mailing lists, forums on Compuserve and America on Line, and bulletin boards, Moderators have tried to keep posting on topic. But, it's the banter that has always made these forums seem like clubs. I can see both sides, so I know that Adam has quite a job to do, keeping the posting useful and yet fun.
I don't post much because as yet, I don't know s**t about Corvettes. Now I will go back to 'lurking.' (lurkers=people who just read in forums or chats and never say anything.)
Too bad there aren't more members/activities out here in Los Angeles. Oh yes, I almost forgot, I also use this site to find vendors. All by parts have come from vendors listed here.
Good comments eldredjames. Sounds like there are a few differences in opinions which is common in groups of any size. First of all from a Canadian point, I asked Adam if the members map was going to include Canadian member’s locations, he emailed me recently and explained why it does not at this time, I hope to see it in the future. I also raised the question of the $50.00 difference in cost to become life time member from outside USA, as this is basically an internet site. No harm was meant by either of these questions, there are no other indifferences that I am aware of. I am considering this because I appreciate the depth of information/willingness to share this information and enjoy the camaraderie of other members, including the pokes and jabs in good fun from others. I believe that “I” fit in here for the same reason others do “we have a passion for our cars” we like to share or be involved in that passion, with others. I had the good fortune to participate in the Bend Oregon gathering which reinforced my beliefs in this site and the members here, thank you to those that attended. I am sure that others attending C3VR gatherings will find the same hospitality, it is the members and I look forward to meeting others in the future. As far as the extra cost of membership I think that $50.00 to mail a T-Shirt and Laminated Dash Plaque outside the US is a bit much. As for the survey, I replied and added my name to my comments but I will add, it is a survey therefore you ask for everyone’s opinion, a summary of results would be interesting to us all, to help build C3VR. I personally think posting parts of anyone’s survey should not be done, like the comments or not that was their opinion you asked for. Great site, great information and great people, time to move forward, have a great day.
Cheers

I think the whole idea that Adam is trying to get across is that some new members, or visitors, may not get how some of us do things. We joke around with each other(sometimes a little too much), and it may seem a bit odd to new folks. I've been on other forums...just too much bickering, and meanness for me. Perhaps that's what everyone is accustomed to, but prolly tired of. A new member takes a gander at some of the threads/posts here, and thinks it's the same-ol same-ol, with name callin and such. They don't KNOW that we are all really friends, and just pokin fun at each other....they just see what might be interpreted as flaming....and they move on.
A suggestion would be to at least use the available Smilies to lessen the perceived harshness of a post. IE; Joel, you big dummy!

Mama is one of those people that you cannot joke around with too much, because she doesn't always get the joke, or she make take offense at it. There are plenty of others like her, that just may not get it. Doesn't make them bad people, or people that don't have a right to be here....they're just different..or maybe it's US that are different.
Does that make sense?
We don't want to keep anyone from enjoying their visits here, be they Lifers, or Newbies. The real point is to please consider that a newbie might not get that inside joke...especially if it has nothing to do with the original topic. All that is being asked is to Please have some consideration for our New(er) Members when posting. Not ALL of them are nutz like some of us, but we would like for them to hang around, and get to know us. Remember, we were ALL newbies here once, and were made to feel Welcome....Just asking for everyone to continue that.

As a direct answer to Elderdjames, It is a little known secret that the East Cost guys (everyone east of the Mississippi) on this forum are afraid that if given a chance the Left Coast guys will take over and they are also envious of our weather.
So to prevent that there is a quota on joining from the Left Coast. I think it is 1 for every 10 east coast guys. Don't let Adam know I told you. It is a deep dark secret (ebo told me all about it). We Left Coast guys just have to work harder to get more C3 guys to join. I'm printing some flyers up and soon we will over come and surprise them at a function.
