Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
I received a letter from leemcglam's widow that she wrote to me after she received the monetary gift that was collected from some of the C3VR Members. I want to share it with all of you now so that you can see what a shine we made in her life. Also, she is looking to sell Benny's 1970 Vette. Pictures follow the letter below.

If you would like more information about this Vette, C3VR Member DCVETTE80 (Dan) has seen it in person and spoken to Benny's widow. Please contact Dan at: DCVETTE80@yahoo.com

If you are interested in purchasing this Vette, please reply to this post or send me an email: AdamW@C3VR.com. She is asking $25,000 or best offer.

Dear Adam,

I am so incredibly moved by the kindness and generosity of you and the other members of C3 Vette Registry. What an awesome show of thoughtfulness and care. I am really at a loss for words to express my gratitude.

I thought you may be interested to know a little about the Corvette that Lee (you know him as Benny) left behind. I plan to sell it as is with all of it's parts to someone who has the same hobby/interest as he did. Or I may pay someone to put it together and then sell it. I have all the parts as Lee told me before he died that he had gotten them all in because he was taking anything out that was not a 1970 piece and replacing with all 1970 pieces. So if you know of anyone that loves restoring Corvettes, I have a dream come true for somebody. Following is some information that I pulled. You may know better via e-mail or through the Corvette Club how to pass the word around quickly. I would appreciate anything you could do. Of course you have already done too much but because of what you have done, I thought it would be unfair of me not to let you know what I have in my garage, so here goes:

I came across a few notes he had made. One note dated May 10, 2003 says that he has the engine and entire drievtrain out of the car. he restored the entire front suspension and even had the brake caliper brackets plated gold iridite. He sent the rear control arms to Blair's Corvette who rebuilt them including new rotors, axle bearings, new calipers, etc. He has every part now meeting NCRS specs. He put original Firestone Wide Oval bias tires and has the engine at Ledford's Automotives being rebuilt. He painted the frame and underside of car to a shiny black sleek perfection. He refinished the engine compartment but still needs to put the vacuum hoses and wiring harness back in place. Every casting number/part number on every part is correct now but it cost big bucks. He paid $850 for the correct Q-Jet and $500 for a pair of horns. He said he would really like to restore cars and then sell them but he would go broke in the process because he is too much a perfectionist.

The on a note dated July 8, 2003 he wrote that he just finished the rear end restoration and it looks really great. He finished removing all of the rust from the chassis and painted it just before he got pneumonia. He sent his seats to Al Knoch in Texas for total restoration. They were restored, returned and are still in the box. The car has a beautiful pain job. That is about the only thing that he would not have to do. He has the entire inside of the car gutted. He sold the old seat belts on Ebay to a guy in London for $395 but got a new set of original belts still in the GM boxes from a guy in Canada for $600. He sent the Delco heater blower motor to J Pinto in Philadelphia to restore/rebuild to original working order including painting the unit. He told Mr. Pinto that the blower would be used in his non-air conditioned 1970 Corvette Convertible that he is building to NCRS show condition. This blower was rebuilt by Mr. Pinto and returned and is still in the box. He sent his brake booster to Van Steel in Clearwater, FL and asked him to restore the original condition for his 1970 Corvette Convertible, 350/350HP, 4 speed with power brakes. He also told him he wanted the restore to include cleaning, new spring, rubber grommets, gasket, boot on the brake pedal side, and the cover plated, not painted, gloss black as the original booster.

So, Adam, these are some of the notes/comments that I found to describe Lee's Corvette. We know that it is a 1970 non-air conditioned Convertible top black, red body Corvette with heat, rear window defroster, power brakes, 350 HP Turbo-Fire 350 V8, 4-speed transmission, power steering, AM/FM pushbutton radio with black interior and all the other things mentioned above.

I hope this gives you an idea of what we are dealing with. Again, I am in no hurry, I just wanted as many people as possible to be aware of what is available to them if they are interested. Thank you so much for spreading the word. That is all I'm asking. And if anyone would like to come see it, that would be fine too.

Sincerely,
Valerie McGamery
