Since Dec. I'm having problems using emoticons when I post. Every time I choose one it freezes my screen, sometimes for quite a while. out of frustration I hit the space bar and click the mouse and occaisonally it helps ? I try to be careful not to hit the wrong key and lose my message but this is taking all the fun out of posting. Anyone have a clue where I might start looking to solve my issues ? Software security maybe ? I'm not that good on the computer. Just got it new last year, running windows Vista.

Not sure, Jimmy, but it may have something to do with any "pop-up" blocker(s) you may have running. The emoticons would be considered pop-ups, and your software may be trying to block the window from opening. I had a similar issue a while back, and had to set the anti-virus software to "allow pop-ups from this site".

Like I said, don't know if that may be your problem...just throwing out idears...anyone else got anything? anyone? anyone? Beuller?

I had a similar problem, but not this site.

I was told to clean my "browser" using a free program from CCleaner.com.
And it worked....  Good Luck Jimmy

Jimmy,

When you click on the smily face icon, does the menu come up right away?

Does the screen freeze then or after you select the face?

I am guessing Joel is on to something.

Did anything change on your computer back in Dec.?

Confused

Hi Dave, the freeze up happens at the point of selection, it doesn't want to drop it on to the letterWackoConfused . I've allowed for popups on C3VR and went to the CCleaner site and I'm now able to get by this simple task, although it appears to take 2 clicks of the mouse. What a pain that was. Thanks for your response Dave Big%20smile, I'm sure this isn't the end of my computer woes.

Oh, BTW Dave, the only thing that changed back in Dec. was some Auto upgrades from Microsoft or Windows or something. It's a new computer, at least only 6 moths old running vista.

Jimmy I am by no means an IS guru but I believe Joel may be on to something. In addition to his comment about the PopUp Blocker you might check your security level. It may be so high that it isn't preventing anything to pass. I have mine set on medium and occasional it struggles with some sites.

You can check this in the menu bar by clicking on Tools / Internet options / Security. You should see an adjustable bar that will allow you to change the level.

If you continue to have problems drop Norsky a PM and he will come to your rescue....

Thanks everyone. I'm feelin much better now Big%20smile. There is no better feeling than having the whole darn cavalry come to the rescue LOL Clap Thumbs%20Up. The issue only occurs now (I tried everything suggested ) when I use the "more" menu, and then not as bad as it used to ( curious, must be a security thing or a conflict with something )Disapprove. I'm running an auto defrag. but I'll keep trying to clean things up even though the hard drive isn't really crowded. Love those Emoticons.
