Hey Gang,
An old saying goes that 'a picture speaks a thousand words'. In cyber land large pictures equal millons of bytes of data. Large pictures are GREAT for use on profile pages, registry pages, and personal web pages (and are encouraged!), but in the forums, because of their higher 'look-n-see' activity, smaller is better - especially for signature images. Many members (myself included) for whatever reason do not have access to high speed internet connections. Using a dialup modem means suffering through long wait times for a page to display while a large picture is being downloaded (for example, pictures that load in seconds on a cable or network connection can take as many minutes to load on a modem connection).
Please be kind to all by making a smaller version of your picture (400 pixels wide or less) and using it as a hot link to the larger picture. That way those of us on slower connections can pick and choose which larger pictures to take a look at. If you need help resizing a picture feel free to ask any moderator for assistance.
Here's how to make a smaller picture a hot link to a larger picture. Just replace all the ? (question marks) with | (vertical bars or pipes).

To see how it works just click on the picture of "The Toy" below. All of us on dialup connections thank you...!!!

Thanks for the info and the tips! I like the way you can setup your pic to click for the larger image.
Mine was actually a little larger than your recommended 400 pixels. I've changed it to a smaller version as of this post.
For those of you who are trying to visualize what the size is, my signature picture below is 390x249 and is just under 38KB in size.
Anyone who needs help in resizing their pictures, please feel free to contact me directly in email. I'll be happy to help!

A Corvette but no high speed internet?
Sorry I couln't resist. I do Network administration, so to me having high speed is the automotive equivalent of having a steering wheel.

youd think anyone with enough money to have a vette would be able to get high speed.. i own an ISP and do tech consulting (for the last 8 years). I have only had high speed for about 6 months now..
I was too far outside of town for DSL and the trees are too tall for wireless.. even now with DSL, I get the basic rate because of my location.
but regardless of high speed or no.. giant pictures waste page space. every should follow norsky's advice and use thumbnail style pics in their sig with link to bigger ones.
the only problem with this is the 750 char limit in the sig.. when you put in a really long url to get to your pic... starts eating up those characters quick.
Eric has offered to help people with resizing.. Ill volunteer too..
