Hey Adam, why don't you offer up some of that "Down Home" cooking like you did at Round Valley.

Bravo Butch!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was the only one with a big mouth and sometin to say. Gy gosh be darn say it. WE are sometimes forgetting that we are a member based group and maybe 100 is important to someone - but come on guys it's no big deal. If you have to offer specials to get the 100th than what about the 99 that got you there. If it wasn't for the 99 you wouldn't have 100. DUH I like being part of the group - who th h*** cares what number I am - I hope they know my name. If I'm nominated-I won't run and if elected-I won't serve. (These comments were made on a soap box at 5th and Main) They do not reflect the opinion of everyone. Thank you for your support.

Ya know what...fine. There won't be anything special for 100.
You're right...the 99 that came before are just as important. It is neat to be the 100th. Kind of like the 1,000,000th customer at McDonalds or something. Long before this topic came onto the forums, a member emailed me about being 100. So apprently there is some interest in being number 100.

I've always thanked each and every one of the paid members when they became paid and when they renew (if applicable). I constantly thank all members for supporting the site as I do things on or to the site.
Joel is putting together a list of all the lifers and I'm going to create a page to "honor" them.
But if you guys think doing something special for 100 shows a lack of appreciatation for the first 99 then I won't do anything special. If you think I don't appreciate the first 99 lifers and ALL the paid members current or in the past, you are wrong. I've said many times over that without the support of the members, this site would not exist. I appreciate every one of you equally.

Well this just blows my mind Adam - I can't believe that some club members got their nose outta joint because we were going to put a little recognition to the 100th lifer? Why? Because that person is going to be made to feel a little more special then someone before them did? Jeez thats a great reason not to do it isn't it. I never would have guessed that anyone of us C3'ers would have that reaction - guess I'm the stupid one for suggesting it. I don't know it just seemed to me it's not a big leap to see that recognizing Mr. or Mrs. 100 is also recognizing all of us because together we have grown this club into something very special. Damn - I'm proud to be a lifer but I am also really proud of everyone else too. So what if somebody is going to get a $25.00 gift certificate or a couple of t-shirts or some small reward plaque. And we can't do that for the great reason that we didn't get it first? Let's think about that for a second... huh? Is that what this club is? Adam I can see you are in a no win situation here - so don't do something nice (something that we could get a little press in the industry for our club with) because of a couple of sqeeky wheels. Ain't that just the Christmas Spirit?
Yeah - I guess now that I think about it I agree too - there really is no practical reason for the club to do this . Tell you what Adam, when the 100th person joins send me their name and address and I'll spend a couple of bucks on a few trinkets for that person - no one else will have to even know. Ken.

Ken,
As you could probably tell from the first line of my reply, I too can't believe that some members got upset about this idea. And you're right, similar to picking the date for the annual gathering, I can't win. If I don't do something special for 100, someone (or some people) will be upset. If I do do something special, some people will be upset.
And sorry to get slightly off topic, but...
I welcome suggestions on how I, as the leader, make decisions that makes everyone happy. Or do I simply have to make a decision knowing that some will like it and some will not. This really puts me in a tough spot that I really do not enjoy being in.
In the five years of running C3VR I haven't come across as much turmoil as I have in the past month or two. Is something that greatly different about C3VR in the past two months? Have I changed the way I handle things greatly in the past two months? I really don't understand why it is getting like this.

Adam - the times we live in have brought to the surface two basic people traits that have now become so commonplace we scarcely notice them anymore. The first is the failure for people to get involved - more then ever we see this everywhere, we live busy lives and just figure it's someone else's job to participate or to make the decisions. But once a decision gets made. The second aspect of our new human nature surfaces - it's this tendancy we all have to just bitch about anybody else's idea once it's out there. I'm as guilty of this as the next guy so I am no one to talk - my message was little more that just doing the same thing complaining to the complainers so they could hear what they sound like. As you have already learned leadership is a lonely spot. When things go well you had nothing to do with it, when things go poorly it's all your fault. Not that any of us have any better ideas - or not that any of us would want to do what you do - it's just that today it's more fun to throw water on an idea then it is to support it. Bottom line - you have the job - so do what you think is the right thing to do - don't ask for permission (because few will stick their neck out to give it to you that means they might get criticized too) and don't ask for opinion because you'll only hear everything that's wrong with your idea. Is there ever anything wrong with just doing something? Or is there lots wrong with just doing nothing? Well, nothing is certainly safer - so lets do nothing - never re-elect anybody.
