I just joined and I am trying to post a picture of my Vette but it locks up ever time. I saw that there is a limit on the file size of 500Kb but my photos are all 1.08-1.15 MB. I will really show my computer ignorance here-but how do you get your photos loaded to your e-mail, especially if all the photos from my digital camera are seemingly too big?

I don't think you have your camera set to save the pic as a JPEG. Also there are a number of people on the forum who have software that will actually shrink the file size. Hang loose and one of them will respond to your post.
BTW, welcome to the registry. Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Barry - Welcome aboard.
I have software that can resize your pics so that they are under the file limit size. All you need to do is email them to me and I will resize them for you and send them back.
Of course your question is "How do I send them to you?" I'll send you an email at the address in your profile with directions on how to attach photos to an email. Hopefully, you'll be able to do it. If you still have problems, email me back with any questions. Good luck.

Try this...
If you are using Windows, depending on what version of it you have, you can use "Paint":
* It should be on the Start Menu under Programs/Accessories.
(You can also chose "Run" from the Start Menu, then type in "mspaint" and press enter).
1. Start Paint
2. On the "File" menu, select "Open"
3. Browse to the location of the file you want to resize, and select it by double-clicking it (or click it once, then click the "Open" button).
4. On the "Image" menu, select "Stretch/Skew".
5. In the "Stretch" box, enter 50 for both the Horizontal and Vertical Values. Leave the other values alone, then click "OK"
6. On the "Image" menu, select "Attributes".
7. Make sure that "Pixels" is selected in the "Units" box.
8. Look at the value in the "Width" box. You want it to be between 400 and 500. (And the "Size on Disk" less than 500,000 bytes).
* If the width is still higher than 500, click "Cancel" then go back to step 5 and try again. (You may need to use a number lesser or greater than 50 to get it right. You should get the hang of it pretty quick).
* If the width is between 400 and 500, then click Cancel and go on to step 9.
* If the width is less than 400, you may want to click Cancel, then on the "Edit" menu, select "Undo". Then go back to step 5 and use a number higher than 50.
9. On the "File" menu, select "Save As..." DO NOT SELECT "SAVE" or you will overwrite your original file!!!
10. In the "Save As" box, enter a new file name, make sure the location is correct, make sure the Save As Type is .JPG, then click Save.
If you have "Microsoft Photo Editor", try this:
* You should find it on the Start menu, under Program/Microsoft Office/Microsoft Office Tools.
1. Start Microsoft Photo Editor.
2. On the "File" menu, select "Open"
3. Located the file you want to open, then double-click it (or click it once, then click "Open")
4. On the "Image" menu, select "Resize..."
5. On the Resize box, make sure "Units" is set to "Pixels"
6. Enter 400 in the Width box.
7. Click "OK"
8. On the "File" menu, select "Save As..." (DO NOT SELECT "SAVE" or you will overwrite your original file!!)
9. Enter a name for the file, select a location, , make sure the Save As Type is .JPG, then click "Save".
You should then be able to upload the file.

My first Vette, now owned by JB79:

What Adam has detailed out above will get you an image size that is perfect for including in your signature.
What Glenn pointed out applies to ALL images. The JPEG format (file extension .jpg) of an image is WAY smaller than a bitmap format (file extension .bmp) of the same image. Just open your .bmp image in MS Paint, then do a SAVE AS of the image using the same file name but select the .jpg file extension, and Paint will convert your image. Then using Window Explorer (or File Manager for those of you/us stuck in the past
) look at the directory (or folder) where the images are. You'll be surprised at the difference in size of the same image.
Now you'll be able to upload the reduced size versions of the full files (the .jpg extension) for use in your home page, profile, and registry areas of the site while having a smaller version of your favorite image for your signature.
Hope this helps!

Ann,
I ask a lot of dumb questions so please don't be offended - are you sure the image file got uploaded into your P.F.F.? If it is there are you sure you have the URL correct? I've resorted to the copy/paste method because I usually fat-finger the URL when I try to key it in.

Save the Wave...!!!
