Topic: We Had a Blast!
in Forum: South West Region Events
I wanted to give a big "THANK YOU!" to Lowbrowser, along with his lovely wife Fran, and Tidied (who brought his friend Steve with a sano '71 shark) for attending the California Car Cover/NSRA show on Sunday. Along with our Bug Brother, Phil (with his cherry '72 Bug) we all had a great time. Comparing cars and relating stories, to the plethora of horsepower on hand, we all had a great time. In fact, we were the only C3's in attendance! I also had a couple come up to me asking about the cars. Seems their son in Tuscon got an e-mail about the show from "some web group" he belongs to. Well they live close by and he asked them to check out the show for him! Can't remember his name tho....Has a '69.
We are all planning to attend more shows together, so all of you So Cal members keep your eyes peeled for the next meet-up and a real good time. I know Steve said he will be joining this group shortly as well.
We all talked about starting a local club here as well. Seems all of us have experienced (as Lowbrowser puts it) the" C5 Lizard" wrath when it comes to the local Corvette clubs.....Our motto " Have Fun!"
Anyway, a big "THANKS" again to the C3 members who attended.........Until next time....................

Ahhhhh....the irrepressible C5 Lizard.....where do I begin?
Ok....Most of the guys you meet with C5's THINK they are hot S*&T! I worked as a service advisor at a Chevy dealer for many years. First off they THINK they are rich...."hey, I have a Corvette, I'm better than you." These guys made me want to sell mine so I wouldn't be associated as a Corvette owner. Even in Corvette clubs, thesee guys look down their collective noses at you. They think some carbon fiber fuel rail covers and an air intake makes them King of the Road, get outta my way, I'm bitchen'!
Most of them are "new " money or cashed in their 401K's to buy it. Alot of them are probably the guy who drove the biggest piece of carap in high school and want to look good at their next reunion.
I currently work at Land Rover where people drop $80-100K for a car. These people actually have the money. (But it is a POS)
Ask Lowbrowser, who was totally shunned at the Primm Nevada run for wearing a "Stingray" t-shirt. (hey Adam, how about putting his essay "Fear and Loathing in Primm, Nevada in the next Shark Bytes?) Good reading, tongue in cheek, but all true. The names were NOT changed to protect the Lizards!
Anyway, check out your local clubs. You may find some real nice people. Good luck and stop by the L.A. car scene....its in full swing this time of year. You can literally find a cruise every night of the week!
Just my $5....................

First off, a BIG tip of the hat to VNCRUISER for organizing the first So.
Cal CV3R group event, it was a blast and a half. Looking forward to the
next, for sure...After my experience in Primm NV with the C5 lizards, I
was weary of the "group" event, but VNCRUISER made it feel more like
long lost friends getting together again after many moons. C3'ers are a
far better breed than the lizard men!
I hope we can continue to gather a community of brothers in the area to
get together and share this fiberglass bond! I think we have a strong core
group and the future looks bright. This group is open to anyone who
wants to join us at the local shows, we won't discriminate if you car will
someday rot to rust or not! Meet us there! No lizards in THIS crowd.
Local lurkers, Jump in! It's the beginning of a full season of cool hot-rod
muscle shows and I would like to meet ALL of the SoCal CV3R's in person.
Again, thanks VNCRUISER and community. See you guys at the next event!

Tumarr:
You really should find a local club and join and be active !
Personally I still do not own a C5 ..plenty of the guys & gals in my club
own them however...BUT some also own other Corvettes ... And I honestly can say I was never "looked down upon" by any of them...
I however find that most Corvette owners are in general Looked at as "snobs" at cruise ins etc... Love to have a dollar for every time another driver (not a Corvette) or his wife told me that I did not "act" like a Corvette owner... ????? gives you some idea of how Corvette owners are preceived... no matter what Vintage Vette you have...
Last weekend was the 1st "good" weekend of the year here in Maryland...
Saturday morning 10 or so members of our club took a
40 mile drive on the back roads to travel 25 miles to a "pub" in a nearby town for lunch, talk, a few drinks....
Saturday evening some of us headed up north 40 miles to one crusie in and some of us stayed real local and surported the home town
cruise in ....(like me) looked at some really nice cars and found out many guys spend a lot of time in the garage this winter ...one Mopar
was just absolutely "cool" so to speak...
Sunday the club did not Meet & Caravan down to a Corvette show
down (hosted by another Corvette Ckub) the road 25 miles...but plenty of our club members were there... Rekindled some friendships and got up to date on thier families, cars, etc...
The show was at a Preformace orientated Chevy (And Lambo) dealer
most of the cars were inside in the service areas etc...BUT the cars in the showroom got my attention... Nothing but C3's 9 of them and all in Concours judging...(NCRS SHOW) ...to be honest it made me a little sick... these cars were beyond 100 point cars... just absolutely
perfect...
Only one new C6 in the show... interesting to see how many start showing up at shows this summer...
So... I had my 95, 64 and 72 out this weekend...only put maybe 150
miles total on the cars... Had a few drinks...shot a lot of BS saw some really nice cars BUT more importantly met a lot of nice people...
You can do all of this without joining a club BUT it seems to be more fun if you get into a local club...
BTW... the 64 has a slow leak in the front left tire...that I still have to look into.....The 95's left turn signal stopped working had to pick up a new bulb yesterday... But the 72 came thru its first outing without any problems... except its owner still remembers those C3's in the showroom at the show... LOL

oh, how true that is- ive been around the car shows now for
only a year or so, and ive already seen this with my own eyes.
those c5 guys really are like that. i went to two corvette club
sponsored events last year- one was a total snob fest, (a mix of
ncrs anal-retentive fender polishers and the c5 "lizards".) i felt
really out of place at that one. i mean a guy had a 75 that had
little cardboard "flaps" pinned to the fenders to avoid a stray
speck of dirt when he drove in. whic he promptly removed and
waxed and polished where they were clipped! In contrast, when
i went to another at the end of october, and it was a joy! The
corvette folks just loved to walk around and talk to one another
and not really care who had what! seems to me that i enjoy the
shows that are open to all, rather than the corvette only type
shows. its more fun to park next to another 79 vette and maybe
a camaro or something. its fun to admire the differences in all
the makes and styles, and not be overly concerned whos got
the most correct grade-8 bolt with the correct manufacture date
or whatever crap that the ncrs gives a s**t about.
as one other c3vr member put it-
"JUST DRIVE THE THING!!"

OK, I have the urge to respond here, so hold on. First off, the car "hobby" is a wide area with a lot of room for differing view points and ideas. I have been a member of NCRS for over 20 years and actively, seriously, prepared vettes of the C1 and C2 vintage for NCRS judging for about the first 10 years of my membership. I must say that in MHO it did get ridiculous and I stopped doing it. Having said that, a First Flight (top) or a Second Flight judgment really increases the monetary value of your car, so I understand the purpose. Now in my life journey of car loving, I want to enjoy the car which means I want to drive it. You really can't do that to a Top Flight or Bloomington Gold car unless you are into loosing money on your investment. Cars of this level are really meant as an investment and generally are bought and sold as such.
I guess the old discussions on modified or original always come up. As for me, I don't care anymore one way or the other. I enjoy cars for what they are. I know what I like when I see it: modified or original or in between. I want to be part of a club that excepts all points of view, but where no point of view is seen as more valuable than another. I agree that some C5 owners are in it for show and are snobs, but many C5's have returned my "vette wave", so you can't condemn the whole lot. I just think that people should be judged as individuals and not as a group. Having said that, I have experienced local NCCC clubs with a large C5 population that seam more of a "social club" than a car or vette club. I have at times, felt as though my car, an myself, were looked down upon while in these clubs. Thanks for the CV3R where we are all excepted, and a chance to exchange ideas about my favorite vette; the C3. Let's try to keep the vette bond together. Peace, and oh yes, save the wave.
