Topic: We Had a Blast!
in Forum: South West Region Events
We meet once a month to discuss cruise-ins, fund raising for charity and car shows.
We work together to put on a members only show at a local mall. We plan weekend trips. Over half of the memberships are couples. We all share a common interest in America's Number 1 Sports Car.
We have a couple of tech sessions per year and we have a Chevy dealer that sponsors us at the $1000 level.
Although this thread has digressed from the subject of So Cal Events, I think it is important to understand that all clubs have a mix and you can't bad mouth one group because of a few bad apples.
I guess the more focused the group is on one specific subject, the better they communicate with each other. I'm sure all of the 1982CE owners would love to be at an event where there were hundreds of 82CE's.
You will see that at Corvettes at Carlisle.
Bottom line.... I like Corvette Clubs.
We publish a newsletter and maintain a website for the members.

OK....THIS IS MY FAULT....LETS GET BACK TO THE ORIGINAL THREAD..............WE HAD FUN....
REID 72 T-TOP

I'm betting that of the hundreds of hot rods and classics at the Seal Beach Car Show in a couple of weeks, I will be the only C3 in the bunch...that's what happened last year. Check out the thread I started about the Belmont Shore Car Show in September. There's always a pretty good vintage Corvette turn out (C1, C2 and C3) but the more Sharks the better!
I will make one comment about the whole C5/6 owner problem then drop it forever. Keep in mind, a pretty good number of these owners never had a Corvette before they bought the new "flavor of the month". These are the people that see the C5/6 as a superior car and frankly, they are in a lot of ways...but not because they cost more then our beloved Sharks. I've driven a bunch of C5's, base and Z06, and I've got to tell you it is one HELL of a car. Fast, comfortable, handle great...but they are a dime a dozen. I came very close to buying a C5 vert when I sold the '70 and that wouldn't have made me any less of a Corvette fanatic. I didn't make that move because to me, the Shark embodies everything a Corvette should be...loud, sexy and a little unfriendly. I took the '70 to an event put together by the CorvetteForum at Hooters and mine was 1 of 3 vintage Vettes...one other Shark and a GORGEOUS '66 big block vert. I was asked to park mine in front with a handful of C5's for a group shot...take a wild guess which car the Hooters girls wanted to stand by? Here's a hint...it didn't have cupholders.

Hey, who wouldn't want a piece of that action? When/where? Count me
in. I'm also planning on the Barris show and Rat Fink show for sure, I
hope we can make SoCal events of all...
As for the C5 slamming, It really started with my experiences in Primm
NV last month; with no club affiliation and a 'Stingray" T-Shirt, I felt I got
the cold shoulder and I wrote it up in a 'Hunter S. Thompson' style piece/
exploit just to get it off my chest. I called the C5'ers "Lizards"... It wasn't
the C5 CAR (They are beautiful monsters), but the C5 owners (and C5
driven clubs) that made me and my wife feel VERY unwelcome for the full
3 days. Seems others had similar experiences. I plan on starting a new
thread with a link to the original story so we can get this thread back to
the task of (as VNCRUISER SAID) having fun (SoCal style). I'll post the story
under 'C5 Lizards' and everyone can turn up the heat on me over there.
Lizards welcome....
Do go on about a C-5 lizard, I have not yet joined a local vette club but I am considering it. What do these guys do? Sounds like you guysd had a good time, I am envious.
Tom, they are not all bad. Went on a little cruise with 1-C4, 3-C5's, and a sprayed C6 on Sunday, all really friendly people. The Sunday before Iwas with 30 or so C5's and me bringing up the rear and another good group. There are some C3 clubs around, and some solid axle clubs, and then there are some like the Chicago Corvette Club that have a little of everything. Club sponsored cruise nights begin the first Friday in May and will be on the 1st and 3rd Fridays all summer at Augustino's in West Chicago (64 & 59, by Menard's). I'm afraid our sharks will always be outnumbered by the newer Vettes, especially when you consider many shark owners don't even drive them, they just haul them around to various shows on a trailer. Certainly have to admit having a newer one would make for much more reliable transportation, especially on long trips and even daily use.
i have to agree with that point and i feel i have to apolgize to the nice guys out there- i didnt mean to say that a whole group is like that, but there are a couple of them out there. for the rest, sorry guys- didnt mean to reflect on the group as a whole.

sorry to stray off topic there
